Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care and has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients’ homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man. The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Sunflower House building newly relocated, and opened on the hospital site.
We currently have more than 4,000 staff working across our community and hospital sites. We’re also a teaching and training hospital providing education and training to around 540 medical and over 500 nursing and allied health professional students each year.

Job overview
This is a full-time appointment for a 10PA Consultant Paediatric Nephrologist at Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust Hospital on a permanent basis. The successful applicant will provide both outpatient and inpatient Nephrology service and joins the team of 4 Paediatric Nephrologists covering the regional tertiary service. The appointee will work alongside the Consultant Nephrology team as well as Advanced Nurse Practitioner and members of the wider multi-disciplinary Nephrology team and renal dialysis team. This post sits within the Division of Medicine.
Main duties of the job
Clinical: The clinical duties of the role include inpatient management, outpatient clinics, on call commitment. Full details can be found in the job planning section.
Teaching & Academic role: Participate in the teaching and training of undergraduates and postgraduates. Postgraduate teaching is co-ordinated by the Postgraduate Tutor, his/her deputies and the staff in the Research and Education Centre. There is a curriculum for all grades of doctors in training. There is also a large amount of multidisciplinary teaching and individual clinical teams provide teaching.
Support the delivery of the nephrology research portfolio and develop research interests in their area of interest and expertise:
* The post holder will be supported to develop their own research interests. The department holds a research PA, which the applicant can apply for all or a portion of instead of an equivalent clinical PA if they would like to when discussing their formal job plan within 3 months of commencement.
Managerial responsibilities: Participate in departmental meetings related to strategic planning. Take an active role in service review and development.
CPD, Audit & Clinical Governance: Participate in CPD activity for which financial support is available. Initiate and undertake appropriate audits as required within the department. Take part in the clinical governance programme.
