An opportunity is available for an Operational Training Engineer based at either Taunton, Tipton or Newark Training Centre. This role involves working as part of a close team of Operational Trainers working across multiple training sites for the delivery of operational training such as substation access, HV switching and document issue to a range of new and existing staff.
Depending on experience, you may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete.
Main Responsibilities
Reporting to the Lead Operational Training Engineer, you will be responsible for the following:
* Delivery of Operational and refresher training for NGED and contracting staff.
* Liaising and advising on company policies and standard techniques.
* Working with colleagues across the wider technical training team.
* Mentoring of Craft and Engineering apprentices and trainees.
* Development of new and existing training techniques and training courses.
* Ensuring the delivery of course content at an OFSTED level.
* Completion of accurate course reports and assessments.
Ideal Candidate
* Applicants should ideally have experience of Operational work on the Company’s distribution system and will ideally hold current NGED Operational authorisations.
* The ideal candidate will also have experience working in primary substations compounds, 132KV tower and experience in protection systems.
* You will hold authorisation up to SAP level.
* The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate the potential to have a flexible approach to their work and this role and demonstrate good critical-thinking skills.
* The successful applicant will be required to possess good IT skills, have a working knowledge of PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook.
* You will also be required to have excellent interpersonal and motivational skills, as this role involves presenting information in-person and via other mediums.
Appropriate training and development will be given in order to assist the successful applicant to realise their full potential. However, the demonstration of technical operational knowledge and company procedures, together with excellent presentation skills are required.
The successful applicant will be expected to study for and successfully complete suitable professional training qualifications.
Although the role will be based at one of the training centres, the successful candidate will be required to attend and deliver training at all training centres across NGED and will be required to attend NGED depots on an ad hoc basis. A valid driving licence is required to be held as part of this role.
You will be working with employees of various ages, including those aged between 16 and 18. NGED has a responsibility to ensure young people are safe within the business, and we will require a DBS check to be undertaken by the successful applicant at the Enhanced level.
Shortlisted candidates will be required to create a training presentation on a given topic, which you will need to present as a part of the interview process.
