What You’ll be doing:
As Senior Structural Engineer within the Engineering, Assurance and Compliance Team (EnACT), you will provide technical governance, legislative, regulatory and safe to operate assurance for buildings and structures within HMNBP. You will be an experienced structural engineer educated to degree level. You will have an extensive portfolio of experience demonstrating your ability to deliver high quality engineering solutions.
With assurance of compliance to all relevant statutory and regulatory legislation within a maritime infrastructure environment, you’ll spearhead the ownership of complex technical problems and show technical acceptance of structural elements of project design and ensuring compliance with design intent.
Additionally, you’ll communicate proactively with other team members to provide encouragement, identify problems, create solutions and unblock technical issues and maintain and improve the EnACT technical competence, identifying development needs of individuals or the group to deliver the required structural capability within the business.
You’ll Have:
A degree qualification relatable to the role with 5+ years’ experience within a structural engineering discipline. With ambition to be a chartered engineer, or working towards chartership, you’ll have exposure to assuring compliance to all relevant statutory and regulatory legislation within a maritime and built infrastructure environment.
In safely satisfying operational demands across all areas of Portsmouth Naval Base, you’ll also be proficient in carrying out Structural surveys and reports and have obtained working knowledge of relevant UK standards, Eurocodes, relevant design guidance documentation and Building Regulations.
Knowledge of Building Information Management (BIM) and Asset Data Management systems is also desirable, but not essential.
About you:
With Membership of related technical professional body such as IStructE or ICE (Preferably CEng, or equivalent technical accreditation / membership or working towards qualification), you’ll possess a high-level knowledge of structural engineering, with the gravitas and credibility to support/guide colleagues to resolve complex technical issues.
Having natural communication and influencing skills, you’ll confidently be able to establish communication routes through active listening, give/seek feedback and proficient at negotiations and have excellent customer facing skills linking confidence to deal with stakeholders at all levels.
