Garment Technician & Product Developer (Menswear)
Location: London | Full-time
As a Garment Technician and Product Developer, you’ll play a crucial role in supporting our Senior Technical Designer by owning and driving the technical process across all menswear categories. From initial development to final production, your job is to ensure every garment meets the highest standards in construction, fit, quality, and functionality – all while maintaining the integrity of the Seventh aesthetic. This role is ideal for someone who is solutions-driven, technically skilled, and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
What you’ll be doing:
* Collaborate closely with the Senior Technical Designer to support all stages of product development and technical execution.
* Translate initial design concepts into clear, comprehensive technical packs (tech packs) that include construction details, measurements, and specifications.
* Work alongside pattern cutters and factories to ensure accurate interpretation and execution of garments from prototype through to final sample.
* Attend fittings and document detailed fit comments and amendments, ensuring correct silhouette, proportion, construction, and wearability are achieved.
* Ensure garments are fit for production through precise grading, tolerances, and size specifications.
* Oversee sampling and ensure timely sample delivery aligned with the critical path and production schedule.
* Identify potential technical challenges during development and production and propose innovative, cost-effective solutions.
* Conduct product risk assessments, highlighting quality or construction concerns, and recommending improvements to mitigate issues.
* Monitor quality standards throughout development and production; perform sample checks and inspections to ensure garments are produced to spec.
* Work closely with production and factory teams to troubleshoot construction or fit issues.
* Assist in managing product lifecycle data, including BOMs (Bills of Materials), size charts, and construction guidelines.
* Manage technical records, measurement charts, and reference libraries for future development use.
* Liaise with customer service to support with product-related complaints and offer technical resolutions on returns and faulty goods.
Requirements:
* Minimum 4 years' experience as a Garment Technician or Product Developer, preferably in luxury or premium menswear.
* Strong understanding of garment construction, grading, sizing, fit standards, and finishing techniques.
* Proven experience working with factories and manufacturers to develop and troubleshoot technical garment issues.
* Highly organised with a sharp attention to detail and strong time management.
* Confident attending and leading fittings, and clearly communicating technical feedback to internal and external partners.
* Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to take initiative and work autonomously.
* Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Excel, and PLM systems (or similar product development tools).
* Strong knowledge of technical terminology, fabric behaviour, shrinkage, tolerances, and wash care.
