Main Purpose of Role As part of the Glen Dimplex Group, Ability Projects Ltd are the UK’s leading manufacturer of Fan Coil Units (FCU’s). Our Engineering/R&D team are looking for a Technical & Design Manager to Manage our Technical team, to control our FCU product designs including technical drawings, components, CNC programs and electrical wiring diagrams to facilitate the correct manufacture of Ability FCU’s. To provide technical support wherever necessary. Key Accountabilities Maintain knowledge around building regulations and legislation and product directives to ensure that all our products meet the necessary requirements. Keep abreast of industry and product specific technical and software progression and ensure skills are updated accordingly in order to maintain our commitment to continual improvement. Manage project specific product development in a timely manner, adhering to customer and production requirements in order to achieve business critical time frames. Review and monitor the team’s skill sets and promote training and development within the team to ensure all are up to date with relevant qualifications Act as escalation point within team, providing technical solutions to client queries All new products to be fully bench tested and signed off prior to implementation in order to maintain performance data integrity. Produce project specific documentation as required e.g. Works Instructions, BOMs (Bill Of Material), Technical Submission to ensure continuity of production requirements. Participate in design discussions, produce specifications, etc. as required in support of the project. Provide technical guidance during design phase and post order site support to operational teams as required. Promote proactive project communication to key stakeholders in order to realise our company value of Working Together Understand, interpret and amend/ update as appropriate wiring schematics drawings and CAD (Computer Aided Design) based designs using a CAD package to ensure continuity of business requirements. Understand, interpret and amend/ update as appropriate product general arrangement drawings and CAD based designs using SolidWorks design package to ensure continuity of business requirements. Provide reasonable cover for others within team in order to maintain business output. Act as an ambassador for all H&S matters relating to the design and implementation of GDHV product systems; promoting best practice and helping to develop and implement company working practices and procedures to comply with the company H&S Policy. Implement a quality procedure ensuring that all customer feedback (internal &external) is managed and closed out as required incorporating 360° feedback to comply with the company Quality and Environmental Policy. Generate and maintain operational procedures for the team in order to comply with the company ISO standards Work in conjunction with internal teams to interrogate contract works orders, ensuring production packs are compliant to ensure continuity of production requirements. Maintain accurate project records ensuring that the company is contractually safeguarded to comply with the company ISO standards. Essential Criteria Skills, Knowledge and Experience Formal qualification in an engineering biased discipline Previous experience of AutoCAD design package Previous experience of SolidWorks design package Experience of delivering Design for Manufacture improvements Knowledge/experience of design for sheet metal fabrication Proficient in Microsoft Office suite Well organised with an exceptional attention to detail Track record in delivering results under pressure Excellent interpersonal skills Desirable Criteria Previous experience of CNC machine programming (Lantek, 4IE).
