Overview of role We are looking for suitable individuals to perform a Technical Principal - Asset Management role in our expanding transportation team, supporting delivery of highway, airfield and port projects. As a senior leader in our team, you will get the opportunity to lead asset management projects in a variety of capacities, including as a discipline lead, provider of asset management advisory services and providing support to research studies and innovation projects. This is a growing team and you will be required to develop and diversify the teams capability, including services and skillsets into aligned specialisms, such as capability establishing and configuring asset management systems (primarily Pavement Management Systems), whole life carbon assessment and providing suitability advice in everything we do. You will be tasked with enhancing digital capabilities within the team, working with our digital specialists to unlock opportunities to use the latest technology, like machine learning or artificial intelligence (AI) to support how we deliver, in line with our business plan, sector and client requirements now and in the future. This forms part of our ambitions to continue building networks within our business to support our other teams and divisions, building work for our team and ensuring our team members receive a diverse breadth of experience and opportunity. Our team is based in our Transport Unit and provides pavement engineering and asset management advisory services across the Mott MacDonald Group. Mott MacDonald's Transport and Mobility Solutions (TMS) division delivers services across the entire project lifecycle. Whether we are planning, designing and implementing new roads and airfields, or maintaining, improving and operating existing highway and airfield infrastructure, we deliver innovation, cost certainty and added value through collaborative working with clients and a culture of continuous improvement. The division is primarily based in the UK, delivering projects to clients such as National Highways, Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), Transport Scotland, DfT, Contractors and Local Authorities. We also provide support internationally as required. We specialise in design and construction, maintenance and asset management, progressing schemes from option identification and appraisal through preliminary detail design to supervision of works on site. Following our continued growth and plans to grow our asset management offering in the UK and internationally, we are looking for a Technical Principal - Asset Management to join our technical advisory team as a senior leader in the team. This role can be based out of any one of our UK offices. This is an exciting opportunity to take on a key role in developing and growing asset management capability in our vibrant team and contribute to achieving a high performing shared enterprise with our partners. You will be using our digital platforms where you will be an integral part of the wider design teams located around the UK. You will also be engaging with our international colleagues, particularly in the USA, and supporting the growth of our offering outside the UK. As Technical Principal you will provide technical leadership within the team to fulfil the needs of our clients across a wide range of projects. You will provide a team leadership and people management function within the team, reporting to the Asset and Advisory Service Line Lead. You will also support the Service Line Lead with developing the team, building networks and workstreams both internally within Mott MacDonald and externally, helping to diversify the teams workload, providing opportunities for development and growth for our team members. Additionally, you'll promote our health, safety and well-being policies and ensure these are incorporated in any design as well as ensuring design outputs meet our quality obligations and requirements set out in our Business Management System (BMS). Your responsibilities will also include: • Line management responsibilities for members of the team. • Mentoring/coaching of team members, including towards professional accreditation (e.g. Chartership) • Implementation, configuration and operation of Pavement Asset Management Systems • Support the assessment, prioritisation and optimisation of pavement asset management activities, advising on effective whole life management strategies; • Supporting technical parts of the business to fully take account of operation and maintenance; • Building your network across the business, with the support of the Asset and Advisory Service Line and others, to identify opportunities to expand and diversify the teams work and support our colleagues in the wider Group. • Developing, diversifying and growing the services, skills and capability of the team to meet both current and future needs of our sectors and clients, particularly in pavement asset management. • Management and coordination of delivery, including the management of team members working with you; • Client and project-team facing, leading technical discussion and direction on your projects, advising staff and clients; • Provision of advice on carbon reduction in pavement design and maintenance; • Implementing digital technology to increase delivery efficiency and enhance project outcomes; and, • Supporting the development of bids to increase the pipeline of new work. Candidate Specification The successful candidate will be proactive, enthusiastic and eager to play a part in a growing team. Essential academic, professional qualifications and experience: • Demonstrable expertise leading technical teams and operating in a project team/client-facing role • Demonstrable expertise in pavement asset management, operating/establishing/configuring pavement management systems • Demonstrable experience managing people and developing technical teams to meet changing needs • Experience delivering innovation • Civil Engineering degree or equivalent; Essential competencies / skills: • High standard of verbal and written communications; • Attention to detail and good proofing skills; • Strong interpersonal / people skills; • Ability to work in a fluid and fast environment; and, • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of people. • Experienced with specialist pavement asset management systems/software like Trimble Agile Assets, HAPMS, P-AMS Desired qualifications, experience, competencies and skills: • Experience with carbon footprinting pavement solutions and the use of carbon footprinting tools (e.g. AsPECT) • Attained Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
