We are looking for two dedicated casual drivers to join the Library Service team to:
1. Deliver and collect boxes of library items to and from 36 libraries across West Sussex - from a base in Chichester.
2. Deliver and collect project loans and book exchanges to and from primary schools throughout West Sussex - from a base in Worthing.
3. Drive the Schools Library Service mobile library vehicle to visit 160 subscribing primary schools across West Sussex - from a base in Worthing.
Both roles are a critical part of our library delivery service, from ensuring requested books arrive at libraries on time for our customers, to helping schools deliver an effective school library service to their pupils.

Salary: £13.74 to £13.95 per hour (If you are on a casual contract your annual leave will be included in the hourly pay.)

About The Job:
As a casual driver for West Sussex Library Service, you will be part of a team driving a large transit style delivery van and the Schools Library Service mobile library (when required).
You will play a vital role in the safe and timely transportation of books and library resources, helping our libraries provide invaluable services to public library customers and primary schools!
On a day-to-day basis, you can expect to:
1. Provide a delivery service of items to libraries or schools throughout West Sussex including, delivering, sorting and collecting packages or boxes, and loading and unloading the vehicle.
2. Be responsible for the day-to-day condition and cleanliness of our vehicle fleet e.g. tyre pressures, oil, and water checks, refuelling and cleaning on a frequent basis.
3. To understand and adhere to all relevant procedures including Health and Safety.
The successful candidate should hold a valid UK driving licence including C1. You will need to be aged over 21 as this is a DVLA requirement and to have held a driving licence for at least 2 years.
This is an active role and requires ongoing considerable physical effort as it involves regular moving of packages and parcels for delivery, as well as driving and minor vehicle maintenance.

What We Need From You:
1. To use judgmental skills where there is a need to solve straightforward problems such as a change needed in a delivery schedule.
2. Be physically able to undertake all the required driving, transporting and maintenance aspects of the role, including opening and closing vehicle doors from inside and outside the vehicle, loading and unloading belongings, and carrying possessions to and from properties.
3. Be able to work as part of a committed and dynamic team to achieve the shared goal of delivering consistent and outstanding service.
4. The ability to work from instructions whilst being able to make minor decisions.
5. Sound knowledge of the theory and application of the Highway Code.
