Role Overview:
The Buyer/Expeditor will ensure the company is effectively supplied with products, raw materials, and finished goods, with a primary focus on steel procurement. This role encompasses the oversight of all purchasing activities, ensuring quality, timeliness, and compliance with company standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Supplier Management: Review engineering drawings to identify suitable suppliers for bespoke fabrications and proprietary equipment, both in-house and external.
2. Documentation Preparation: Prepare and issue inquiry documentation detailing quality and delivery requirements.
3. Quotation Evaluation: Assess and verify that quotations align with inquiry specifications.
4. Purchase Order Management: Raise purchase order documents in accordance with established approval levels.
5. Bill of Materials: Break down engineering drawings into detailed bills of materials for in-house manufacturing.
6. Inspection Coordination: Arrange necessary inspections to meet DVE and client quality standards.
7. Supply Chain Coordination: Expedite both in-house and external supply chains to ensure on-time delivery of goods.
8. Issue Resolution: Address issues raised by internal and external supply chain partners in a timely manner.
9. Non-Conformance Processing: Manage and process any non-conformance issues.
10. Documentation Control: Maintain all documentation in compliance with the DVE quality system.
11. Performance Reporting: Conduct and verify purchase reporting against budget and program objectives.
12. Productivity and Safety: Ensure effective and safe work practices while maintaining high-quality standards.
13. Self-Management: Manage personal performance to meet role requirements and adapt to changing priorities.
14. Relationship Management: Foster excellent relationships with internal and external customers.
15. Professional Conduct: Maintain a smart appearance and act professionally when representing Don Valley Engineering Group.
Health & Safety Responsibilities:
1. Safety Culture: Promote a strong health and safety culture within the workplace.
2. Safe Practices: Ensure adherence to safe working practices and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
3. Safety Reporting: Report any health and safety issues promptly and assist in toolbox talks/safety meetings.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
1. Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in purchasing within a manufacturing environment.
2. Fabrication Knowledge: Strong background in fabrication or mechanical engineering is essential.
3. Judgment and Business Acumen: Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and business acumen.
4. Technical Skills: Proficiency in interpreting and processing fabrication/engineering drawings.
5. Subcontractor Knowledge: Familiarity with specialist subcontract trades.
6. Adaptability: Proven experience in a challenging engineering/manufacturing environment, with the ability to work independently and meet personal targets.
7. Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to customer service.
8. Organizational Skills: Ability to prioritize workload effectively, maintain confidentiality, and produce accurate documentation.
9. Analytical Skills: Excellent written, numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
10. IT Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft 365 Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Sage for order processing and invoicing.
