Are you an experienced HCPC registered or BABCP accredited Psychologist looking for a new challenge in a rewarding field?
We have a new opportunity to recruit a Principal Practitioner Psychologist to work directly on our two acute inpatient wards based at the Fulbrook centre, Oxford. You will offer clinical supervision and oversight to the other psychology staff working in the wards including a practitioner psychologist, assistant psychologists, and offering trainee placements.
This role is recognised as crucial in ensuring that patients get access to high quality psychological treatments within the older adult inpatient wards.
You would be part of a strong and supportive inpatient psychology service who are located on the adult of working age acute inpatient wards in Oxford.
You would have a clear co-created job plan that is varied and flexible. There would be allocated time to pursue an interest or develop skills in line with the service as well as ample opportunity to develop your leadership skills.

Main duties of the job
Key duties of this role will be:
* To provide psychological assessment and intervention for adults with severe and/or complex mental health difficulties in an inpatient setting.
* To supervise and support the psychological assessment and therapy provided by Clinical/Counselling Psychologists and other clinical members of the team who provide psychologically based care and treatment.
* To work as part of the inpatient team providing advice and guidance to colleagues as well as to social care and GPs in planning and implementing care plans for patients with psychological care needs.
* To work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of local policies and procedures. To exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within the inpatient wards.
* To utilise research skills, as a requirement of the job, for audit, policy and service development and research.
* To propose and implement policy changes which may impact on other professionals working in the inpatient service.
* To take delegated leadership in specific area of clinical responsibility.

Person specification
Knowledge
* Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology
* Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health
* Knowledge of working with complex patients in time-limited therapies
* Knowledge of the theory and practice of different, specialised psychological therapies and how they are used for patients with severe and complex presentations
Qualifications
* Doctoral level training in Clinical or Counselling psychology, or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996, as accredited by the British Psychological Society, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology
* HCPC registration or BABCP accreditation
* Pre-qualification training and qualifications or experience in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology
* Accreditation with accrediting body such as BABCP, ACAT or SfDBT
Experience
* Extensive experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course with presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity
* Experience of working with people with severe and/or complex mental health difficulties
* Experience of working in Mental Health services in an NHS setting working closely with others as part of a multidisciplinary team
* Experience of offering clinical supervision to other psychological therapists
* Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts
* Experience of working as part of a leadership team
* Experience of line managing other staff
