The Role:
Hampshire Scientific Service is a Public Analyst and Official Food and Feed Control Laboratory providing testing and consultancy services to Trading Standards and Port Health Authorities across the country for enforcement purposes. Hampshire Scientific Service is a UKAS accredited testing laboratory, No.0024.
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced analytical chemist to be a senior member of our Food Chemistry Team. Based in our laboratory in Southsea, you will be planning and organising the day-to-day work of the food team, prioritising workloads to meet client requirements, particularly turnaround times, as well as undertaking a wide range of analytical food testing.
Having an in-depth knowledge of analytical techniques such as High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Gas Chromatography (GC), Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC), as well as classical wet chemistry techniques, it is essential that you have the knowledge to troubleshoot, develop methods, and validate them to meet the requirements of appropriate legislation and add them to the scope of accreditation. You will also need excellent communication and strong organisational skills.
Our food team is expanding, and a key part of this role will be training and developing team members to ensure that we maintain high standards of quality and accuracy. This role will provide plenty of opportunities to use your knowledge and experience of analytical chemistry to really make a difference to the people of Hampshire and to contribute to the development of the Food Chemistry team and Hampshire Scientific Service.
