To undertake general cleaning duties within the halls of residence, to include duties associated with both student occupation and conferences. Roles and Responsibilities Clean designated areas within the halls of residence including bedrooms, bathrooms, shower rooms, kitchens and all white goods contained in the kitchens Vacuum, spot clean and shampoo carpets, sweep and polish floors and clean stairs Wash walls, doors, furniture, radiators, lampshades as appropriate Empty waste bins and remove rubbish from flats to bin store areas Make beds, including stripping and changing sheeting, collection of laundered linen from store and bagging up laundry for collection, during the conference season Clean internal and external windows, where applicable Undertake training as required Move free standing furniture as required Wash up glasses, cutlery and cooking utensils, as appropriate Be prepared to work as and when the need arises, especially during the main student arrival and departure weekends To act in accordance with all health and safety policies and practices Be flexible in providing cover at alternative halls, as required Other duties as commensurate with the post Contact with Others Daily contact with the residents, management and UPP colleagues Possible contact with specialist sub-contractors and the University maintenance team Person Specification Skills, Experience, Education and Personal Qualities - Essential Criteria Previous experience in a cleaning role Good understanding of health and safety, with the ability to understand how to work in a safe manner Good communication and customer care skills Capable of working with minimum supervision Work as a team player and pass on knowledge to others Flexible and willing Prepared to work at other residence halls, as necessary Skills, Experience, Education and Personal Qualities - Desirable Criteria Experience in hospitality/service industry Relevant qualification e.g. NVQ Prepared to work out of hours as necessary
