Varndean School is looking to recruit an enthusiastic, committed and outstanding Learning Mentor. Initially 30 hours per week, with the possibility of this becoming 37 hours if need requires. Term time only, salary scale 5, point 13 to 17 - £26,873 - £28,770, actual starting salary for 30 hours: £19,844.68.
This is a new role delivering pastoral and academic support to students in the VLC (Varndean Learning Centre). Students in the target group will have a variety of needs including emotional based school avoidance (EBSA) and programmes will be a mixture of tutoring and support with the planned curriculum. The busy, productive and highly effective Individual Learning Support (ILS) department is at the heart of the life of the school; ensuring responsive classroom practice and delivering specialist provision across four areas to ensure that all of our students can thrive. As a result Varndean is very popular with families of children with SEND and there will be extensive opportunities for the successful candidate to develop professionally and contribute to the school’s aim to provide a world-class education for all of its students.
Varndean is an excellent place to work. Ofsted in 2022 described the “inspirational leaders”, the “expert” teachers, “impressive” pupils and the “exceptionally strong” staff training. We hope you will want to pursue an application further and you are welcome to make a pre-application visit to the school.
To apply please complete the application form and send/e-mail it, with a covering letter to Lynn Hill, Director of Finance and Operations, Varndean School vacancies@varndean.co.uk
The closing date is 9am on 5th February. Early applications are encouraged as the school reserves the right to interview excellent candidates in advance of this date.
