The Senior Quality Inspector is a pivotal role within our precision machine shop, specialising in tight tolerance components. The role requires a strong background in dimensional measurements and expertise in quality inspection of a wide range of components, from small 0.5mm diameter turned parts to larger milled prismatic components up to 800mm x 400mm. The Senior Quality Inspector will supervise the quality inspection team, oversee daily operations of the quality department, and ensure adherence to rigorous inspection and process standards. This role reports directly to the Quality Manager but involves close collaboration with all engineering teams to uphold and enhance quality standards across the organization. Location: Technoset Ltd, Glebe Farm Industrial Estate, Rugby, Warwickshire. Hours: 38 hours per week. Day Shift (Mon – Thurs, 6am – 4pm) Salary: £32,800 - £42,880 Key Responsibilities Dimensional Inspection and Measurement Conduct and oversee precision measurements of components to verify compliance with tight tolerances and drawing specifications. Utilise advanced metrology tools, including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and surface measurement equipment. CMM Programming and Inspection Plans Program and operate Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) to inspect complex components. Develop and implement comprehensive inspection plans to meet product specifications and customer requirements. Troubleshoot and optimise CMM programs to improve efficiency and accuracy. Leadership and Team Supervision Supervise and lead the quality inspection team, providing mentorship, training, and technical guidance. Monitor team performance, ensuring that daily inspection activities are completed accurately and on schedule. Assign tasks and manage workload distribution among inspectors to meet production and inspection demands. Quality Assurance and Standards Compliance Ensure all inspected parts meet drawing and process requirements, maintaining the highest standards of quality. Support internal audits and contribute to corrective actions for non-conformances. Maintain and improve the performance and capabilities of the quality team through process reviews and best practices. Collaboration and Communication Work closely with engineering, production, and other cross-functional teams to address quality issues and implement solutions. Communicate inspection results and findings effectively, providing detailed documentation and reports as needed. Support the Quality Manager in implementing quality improvement initiatives and maintaining ISO standards. Qualifications and Skills Technical Expertise Proven experience in dimensional inspection of tight tolerance components, including turned and milled parts. Proficiency in programming and operating CMM equipment (Mitutoyo preferred). Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing). Full understanding of the requirements of Quality Management Systems; specifically,AS9100 2016 Rev; D. Leadership Abilities Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team in a high-precision manufacturing environment. Effective task management and organisational skills. Problem-Solving Skills Ability to analyse and resolve quality issues, working collaboratively to implement effective solutions. Communication and Reporting: Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting and documentation purposes. Proficiency in using software for quality documentation and analysis.
