Skilled Multitrader (Contract) – Woolwich Role Overview We are seeking an experienced Multi-Skilled Tradesperson (Multitrader) to join our team on a contract basis, working across projects in Woolwich. The ideal candidate will have proven expertise across a broad range of trades – from carpentry and plumbing to plastering, roofing, and finishing work. You should be reliable, self-motivated, and able to deliver high-quality workmanship independently. A professional, customer-friendly attitude and good communication skills are essential, as you’ll often be working in occupied properties and representing our firm on site. Key Responsibilities & Skills In this role, you will carry out a variety of repair, maintenance, and installation tasks, including but not limited to: Carpentry: Hanging doors; repairing or replacing door and window frames (both UPVC and wood); installing locks and latches; repairing kitchen units and worktops; fitting skirting boards and architraves; flooring repairs; fixing stair bannisters; applying mastic around frames; and performing forced entry repairs on doors. Plumbing: Replacing taps and showers; draining down and refilling heating or plumbing systems; installing or repairing radiators; soldering pipe joints; and clearing internal blockages in sinks, toilets, or drains. Wet Trades: Patch plastering and full re-plastering of ceilings/walls; rendering repairs on external or internal walls; and conducting mould wash & treatment to remedy mould issues. Roofing: Repairing or replacing roof tiles and slates; applying torch-on felt for flat roof repairs; working with lead flashing around chimneys or joints; repairing or installing soffits and fascias; and carrying out pointing repairs on chimneys or brickwork to ensure weather tightness. Finishing Works: Wall and floor tiling (ceramic, porcelain, etc.); applying mastic sealant to baths, sinks, and frames; wallpapering and other wall finishes; painting and decorating (emulsion painting of walls/ceilings and gloss painting of woodwork); and laying sheet vinyl or other types of vinyl flooring. Groundworks: Installing or repairing fencing; basic concreting for small works; floor screeding and self-levelling compounds; applying external mastic around window/door frames; and other minor groundwork or external repair tasks. Electrical (if qualified): If you hold relevant electrical qualifications, you may also perform basic electrical works. This can include tasks compliant with the 18th Edition wiring regulations and using your City & Guilds certifications to safely install or fix electrical components, as well as completing test certificates and reports for any electrical work carried out. You will be expected to ensure all work is completed to a high standard and in compliance with health and safety regulations. You should be comfortable troubleshooting on the job and either resolving issues directly or communicating effectively to arrange any specialist follow-ups if needed. Candidate Requirements We’re looking for a versatile tradesperson who meets the following criteria: Experience: Proven experience as a multitrader or in a similar multi-skilled maintenance role. You should be competent in most of the trade areas listed above, with the ability to independently carry out carpentry, plumbing, plastering, tiling, roofing, and decorating tasks to a professional standard. Vehicle: A full UK driving licence and your own vehicle (essential). You will need to travel between job sites in Woolwich and Croydon, so reliable transportation is a must. (Mileage or travel expenses can be discussed if applicable, but having your own vehicle is required for this contract role.) DBS Clearance: Ideally, you are already registered on the DBS Update Service (for an up-to-date criminal record check). If not, you must be willing to undergo an Enhanced DBS check prior to starting, due to the nature of some of the environments we work in. Trade Qualifications: While not strictly required for all tasks, any relevant certifications are a plus. For example, City & Guilds qualifications in construction trades or an 18th Edition electrical certificate (if you aim to perform electrical tasks) will be advantageous. Tools & Equipment: You should have your own basic tools for your trade specialities. (All specialist tools or large equipment can be provided as needed, but having a well-equipped toolkit for general carpentry, plumbing, and finishing work is expected.) Work Ethic: Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work on your own initiative. You must be able to manage your workload across multiple sites and ensure tasks are completed efficiently and safely. Professionalism: Good communication and customer service skills. You will occasionally interact with tenants, clients, or site managers, so a polite and professional demeanor is important. Punctuality, reliability, and a commitment to quality are all key to succeeding in this role. What We Offer Materials Provided: All necessary materials and supplies will be paid for by the company – you won’t have to cover the cost of job materials out of pocket. We supply what you need so you can focus on the work itself. Varied Projects: An opportunity to work on a variety of jobs in both Woolwich and Croydon, keeping your day-to-day work interesting and allowing you to utilize the full range of your skills. Every day can be different, from fixing a door or leak in a residential property to performing a full room re-plaster or roof repair on another site. Supportive Environment: Although you’ll often work independently, you are part of a larger team that values quality and collaboration. Our management and support staff are just a call away if you need assistance or have questions on the job. Professional Growth: This contract role can help you further develop your multitrade experience. You’ll encounter diverse challenges that can broaden your expertise. Outstanding contractors may be considered for extended contracts or future opportunities. Flexible Schedule: We understand the importance of work-life balance. The contract offers some flexibility in scheduling work across the two locations, coordinated based on project needs. (Typically Monday to Friday work, with occasional opportunity for extra hours by agreement – no regular requirement for nights or weekends unless discussed.) Please note: This is a contract position, so while we ensure a steady stream of work during the contract period, standard employment benefits (holiday pay, pension, etc.) are not included. However, you will enjoy the freedom and flexibility that contract work provides, within a well-organized framework.
