We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Asthma Service.
The role will involve supporting the acute asthma service as well as the asthma service working in Swansea Bay.
The successful candidate will support the asthma service by providing rapid access clinics, face-to-face clinics in both in-patient and out-patient settings, undertaking asthma assessments, education, and assessing adherence to medications. Run biological clinics and administer treatment for biological agents. You will be required to review patients' progress, making appropriate amendments to care or treatment.
The successful candidate will be experienced in respiratory medicine with some experience in asthma, either in a ward, community, or out-patient setting.
The applicant must be able to progress to practice autonomously and be self-directed, but also be able to operate efficiently as part of a team. They will demonstrate an eagerness to learn and develop and have a passion for education and will be encouraged to complete relevant studies. They will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of the service. Excellent communication skills are required.
Main duties of the job
1. Work with the lead asthma consultant clinicians and with Band 7 Asthma Nurse Specialists.
2. Assess, plan, prioritise, implement, and evaluate interventions to meet patient need.
3. Empower patients to self-manage their asthma by advising, offering support and educating patients, relatives, and carers.
4. Undertake telephone consultations for patients who are unwell, preventing emergency visits and hospital admissions.
5. Be involved in the administration and assessment of biological therapy.
6. Be able to interpret clinical information and take appropriate action including the confidence to escalate to senior members of the service.
7. Reviews in-patients providing specialist advice, assessment, education and assess adherence to medications aiming to reduce hospital admissions and emergency visits providing support to medical staff in managing complex patients.
8. Supports and provides cross cover and contributes to the provision of all areas of the service as required across Swansea Bay.

Essential
* RGN (Level 1) degree or working towards / equivalent experience.
* NMC registration.
* Extensive experience at Band 5 or 6 in relevant speciality i.e. acute medicine/respiratory medicine.
* Demonstration of up-to-date knowledge of current issues with respiratory speciality.
Desirable
* MSc in Advanced Nursing or working toward.
* Formal qualification in relevant (respiratory) courses.
* Evidence of education and development relating to respiratory medicine.
