The UK DRI Care Research and Technology at Imperial has been established to address a medical research area of highest importance and future impact as one of seven new national centres of excellence embedded in major UK universities. Together the centres will transform the diagnosis, treatment and care of people with dementias. The MRC, alongside charity partners Alzheimer's Society and Alzheimer’s Research UK, have invested £250m in fulfilment of the ambition identified in the Prime Minister's 2020 Challenge on Dementia.
The UK DRI Care Research and Technology centre at Imperial is seeking an experienced Centre and Research Commercialisation Manager interested taking on a challenging role with considerable responsibility and scope for personal growth. The post holder will manage the UK DRI Care Research and Technology centre, working closely with the centre Associate Director, Prof David Sharp, as well as colleagues in the UK DRI HQ and other centres to deliver on its ambitious six-year plan. They will oversee the centre’s complex multi-disciplinary research operation, act as the principle liaison with both the funder and partner institutes and be responsible for contributing to innovative research and business development within the Centre.
The role will be highly visible, both within Imperial College and externally. The Centre and Research Commercialisation Manager will act as the first point of contact for external queries relating to the UK DRI Care Research and Technology Centre, for both internal staff (PIs and their researchers, core administrative functions, etc), and external stakeholders.
The role will be accountable directly to the Director of the UK DRI Care Research and Technology, Prof David Sharp.
Duties and responsibilities
1. Lead on all operational issues related to the UK DRI Care Research and Technology centre, including being key contact for the centre and building effective working relationships with colleagues at the funding partners, and collaborating institutions.
2. Track and assess, and monitor and report on, the progress of all projects within the UK DRI Care Research and Technology portfolio, including presenting updates on project progress and making recommendations through provision of briefings, presentations and written reports.
3. Use problem solving and planning skills and use your initiative to risk assess projects and proposals, ensuring any issues are resolved quickly and creatively.
Research Commercialisation
4. Support activity relating to the exploitation of research IP to increase the commercial potential of the centre, working within College policies and processes.
5. Support the on-going UKCA marking process and be responsible for the Centres Quality management System (certified to ISO13485 standard).
Finance and Grant Management
6. To hold responsibility for overall budgetary management UK DRI Care Research and Technology’s funding portfolio and to manage this funding in accordance with UK DRI funder rules and College and Departmental policies.
7. Utilise budget forecasts and financial reports to effectively financially manage funding, including supporting staff with the effective management of their grants.
Staffing and Collaboration
8. Line manage the UK DRI Care Research and Technology centre professional support team.
9. Experience in a senior administrative/operational post.
10. Experience of project management, including managing multiple projects concurrently.
11. An open and positive attitude to working in a constantly changing environment.
12. Ability to critically assess the commercialisation potential of early science discoveries.
