This position provides maintenance in and on all Messiah owned buildings and interacts with students, faculty, staff and administrators. This position requires interaction with contractors and vendors and gives input on projects.
Education Required
High School diploma or equivalent
Education Preferred
Formal training program through a vocational school, technical college, apprenticeship or certified training program in general facility maintenance
Experience Required
3 years of commercial repair and maintenance required
Experience Preferred
5 years

* Broad range of repair knowledge across all mechanical trades
* Excellent mechanical troubleshooting ability
* Ability to quickly recognize and evaluate potentially dangerous situations
* Excellent organizational, time management and interpersonal skills
* Ability to work independently or in a team setting
* Basic computer skills including the use of campus e-mail system and software programs used to perform job
Special Working Conditions
Employee must be mentally and physically able to perform all essential job functions which include normal range of motion, reading, pushing, pulling, lifting (75 lbs or more) and moving heavy equipment or materials. Must be able to work from ladders, scaffolding and other heights. This position is essential; employees providing essential services must report to work as scheduled by their supervisor in the event of an emergency closing or delay. In the event of a snowstorm, this position may be responsible for off-hours snow removal.
Primary Duties
1. Respond to requests for repairs, assess conditions, and determine appropriate corrective actions.
2. Perform basic and general repairs to all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC equipment. Request assistance for advanced repairs and replacements.
3. Install, maintain, repair, and/or replace mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and limited HVAC equipment.
4. Maintain building systems, including but not limited to water softeners, mechanical equipment, mechanical rooms and filters.
5. Monitor the computerized Building Automation System to maintain environmental comfort and to determine problematic repairs.
6. Maintain appropriate records and logs for all job assignments, including work orders, preventative maintenance records, and purchasing records.
7. Perform preventative maintenance on equipment across campus.
8. Maintain documentation related to building systems.
9. Monitor potential problems in mechanical systems and recommend preventative maintenance. Recognize potentially dangerous or damaging situations or conditions and take corrective action.
10. Maintain new parts and materials for inventory purposes.
11. Maintain a clean and safe work area during work order completion.
12. Maintain tools and shop equipment in safe and clean operating condition.
13. Follow state, local and federal safety procedures as well as Messiah’s safety procedures and policies and attend training sessions as required.
14. Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
Secondary Duties
1. Help move, deliver and set up items (furniture, etc.) as needed.
2. May be on call for emergency services as scheduled.
3. Other duties as assigned.
