About this opportunity
Are you looking for an opportunity where you will achieve a nationally recognised qualification, whilst benefitting from on-the-job work experience? Then an apprenticeship with Westmorland and Furness Council could be for you!
As a Business Administration Apprentice, you will be working within the Integrated Home to School Transport Team. The Integrated Home to School Transport makes suitable transport arrangements for around 4,500 mainstream and SEND pupils across Westmorland and Furness Council. We are a customer-facing service, in daily contact with parents/carers, schools, and transport providers. We work with a range of stakeholders internal and external to Westmorland and Furness Council and arrange and manage quality transport services. Our aim is to ensure our children and young people have the most suitable transport arrangement in place, which may be through a parental grant, a personal travel budget, or transport via taxi, minibus, or coach.
The team takes calls and receives electronic contacts from a wide range of stakeholders, and the work is fast-paced, varied, and complex. The role is diverse, interesting, and at times challenging, but a very committed team will support you to develop skills and knowledge in all aspects of Home to School Transport service.
You will be part of our team which delivers excellent customer service and work practically across the breadth of the service, dealing with eligibility, policy adherence, budget, contracting, and contract management for all aspects of statutory and discretionary Home to School Transport. You will also gain experience working in front-line operations with CTOT, the Council’s in-house transport team, who employ drivers, passenger assistants and have operational bases across the council area delivering transport to mainstream and SEND schools.
As a Business Administration Apprentice with Westmorland and Furness Council, you will benefit from high-quality training and development opportunities, personalised support from managers and mentors, and the chance to work alongside skilled and experienced staff. This hands-on experience will allow you to gain valuable job-specific knowledge and transferable skills, setting you up for a successful and rewarding career.
Who we are looking for…
We are looking for enthusiastic and self-motivated individuals to join our team as apprentices. The ideal candidate will have a good standard of English, Maths, and ICT, and a strong willingness to learn and grow. This should include a minimum of 5 x GCSE at Grade C / 4 or above (or equivalent) including Maths and English Language.
You should be a team player with excellent communication, organisation, and time management skills, as well as a keen eye for detail and a positive, flexible attitude. If you’re eager to develop new skills and take responsibility while working in a supportive environment, we would love to hear from you!
