We are looking for an Industrial Placement Software Engineer who would like to work on a variety of technologies across the full Software stack to help maintain, modernise and add to our product portfolio.
Formally based at our Southampton office, the role may be a mixture of home based and onsite working. The team allows members to choose what works for them.
What you’ll do as a Software Engineer
1. Working in a Scrum Team alongside highly skilled professionals you will be involved in product development across multiple products supporting multiple customers
2. You will work closely with experienced and multi-disciplined engineers to solve real problems
3. You will be provided with ongoing support and training from experienced engineers to develop your Software skills and give you real practical experience that may not easily be gained from the academic environment
4. You will gain experience across the full software lifecycle; activities such as: requirements analysis, design, code, unit test writing, and integrating the software on target
5. You will design and implement high quality robust code and support build, configuration control, and deployment
6. You’ll be working across a number of different languages including C++, JavaScript and Kotlin
7. You’ll be working across the full stack of Software including platform, backend, frontend and mobile
There are opportunities to progress through either managerial or technical career paths.
What we need from you:
8. Currently studying a relevant degree such as Computer Science, Computing or Software Engineering (BSc (Hon) / BEng (Hon) / MEng.) with an expectation for an appropriate gap in studies to undertake a placement. Applications are also welcomed from candidates who have completed a first degree and are looking to gain industrial experience prior to commencing a relevant higher degree (i.e. PhD, MSc)
9. Enthusiasm for writing code and a keen interest in Software Development
10. Experience of developing software in one or more of the following languages C++, C#, Javascript or Java/Kotlin
It would be nice if you had:
11. Knowledge and experience of the following:
HTML
CSS
Bash/Shell scripting
Front end web development frameworks such as React, Vue or Angular/AngularJS
Linux
Client server architecture
12. Experience of
Agile software development; Scrum, Kanban
JIRA, Confluence and BitBucket
13. Knowledge and use of databases, such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, CouchDB
14. Experience of using Git
