Brief Description
Route Services is a division of Network Rail that provides the Routes with services so they can help Network Rail deliver a better railway for a better Britain. We support the Routes with a myriad of services and supplies they need to maintain and operate the railway.
This role sits within Supply Chain Operations (SCO), an area of the business which supplies and delivers the logistics, materials, components, rail and road fleet that enable the maintenance and renewal of the railway.
Key services include:
1. Project Engineering Management for Track, Signalling & OLE (Overhead Line Equipment)
2. Managing design integration and construction processes.
3. Risk management, budget control, and regulatory compliance.
4. Engineering & Construction Assurance.
5. On Track Plant Management & Assurance.
About the role (External)
We are seeking an exceptional S&T Technician to be part of the charge in revolutionising how we deliver projects across the UK and to be part of the team in delivering a safe, quality, and efficient construction service to our Regional Customers.
This role is pivotal in meeting customer demands and budget expectations while engaging in a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement. You will be a tactical thinker, putting best practice first in helping deliver our works.
You will have a strong S & T background, particularly in track renewals, and hold an IRSE licence in Signalling Installation and Signalling maintenance category. You should demonstrate an excellent knowledge of railway systems, standards, and safety protocols and hold a valid PTS and/or PTS (AC) and a Controller of Site Safety (CoSS).
Key Accountabilities
1. Carry out work safely and in accordance with the safe systems of work procedures, method statements or other relevant instructions.
2. Undertake work and associated duties for which you are trained and competent.
3. Control and check the quality of work undertaken and confirm assets are compliant to standards.
4. Establish and maintain appropriate safety arrangements for staff under your control including Contractors.
5. Check that the staff under your control have the appropriate and valid competencies.
6. Check that vehicles, plant, tools, equipment and materials under your control are fit for use and are used/stored and disposed of correctly.
7. Accurately report all work completed/not completed and produce/maintain records as required.
8. Contribute to your own development and that of others. Adhere to company policies and procedures.
Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications
Essential:
1. Experience of arranging and implementing safe systems of work.
2. Knowledge of how to organise and control the safe and efficient delivery of work.
3. Able to demonstrate, promote and embed safe working behaviours within the team.
4. Able to lead, motivate and direct a team.
5. Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
6. Knowledge of permanent way inspection, faulting, maintenance and renewal techniques.
7. Conversant with standards, procedures and instructions.
8. Hold and retain competencies relevant to this post, required by business need.
9. Ideally hold (or be working towards) an NVQ level 1 or 2 (or equivalent) in a relevant subject or have attained an appropriate level of knowledge through equivalent relevant experience.
10. Able and willing to drive vehicles as required by business need.
