Horsforth Shed - A Place to Connect – Converse - Create
The Shed aims to make our community thrive by offering workshop-based activities; a place where people get together and learn new skills in a supportive environment. There is a well-equipped workshop with experienced staff together with volunteer supervisors. Just as important, there is a social area for refreshments where folk can get to know each other over a cup of tea or coffee. We want to increase our impact and are looking for people to support this work with a variety of roles on offer, including both volunteering opportunities and paid work.
At present, the Shed offers various sessions aimed at a variety of groups, including schoolchildren not in mainstream education, those with Autism Spectrum Disorder, adults wanting to learn new skills, the socially isolated, and individuals struggling with their mental health. Due to staffing changes, there are now both paid and volunteering roles available, ranging from as little as 4 hours up to full time.
Responsibilities
We are looking for individuals who can help us to:
1. Explore new opportunities to engage with our community
2. Support existing sessions by using your practical skills to teach others
3. Help keep the workshop clean and tidy and stock up the screws
4. Provide a listening ear over tea and coffee
5. Oversee some administrative tasks
6. Other possibilities, including a more substantial role, possibly full time, may be available
Start and interview dates are negotiable, as are the number of hours or days you are available. Please call Pete, the Project Leader, for an informal chat and to arrange a visit to the Shed.
