About the role
The Microbiology laboratory supports all factory and technical teams to ensure high levels of microbiological quality assurance are achieved and consistently maintained. This role requires the technical knowledge to provide microbiological information for all factory processes, testing procedures, regulatory submissions, changes to existing products and new products introductions.
Your responsibilities
-Manage a team of microbiologists.
-Ensure adequate resources to enable completion of required microbiological testing, factory environmental monitoring, delivery of microbiological training courses, support of engineering projects, completion of validation projects and progression of microbiological quality assurance improvement activities.
-Ensure all required procedures are in place, within review date and trained out to the Microbiology team.
-Ensure out of specification / out of trend results are thoroughly investigated and microbiological failures are escalated promptly.
-Initiate and document investigations using problem solving skills to enable effective root causing of quality issues and implementation of corrective and preventative measures.
-Manage systems to maintain laboratory equipment ensuring all equipment is successfully validated with relevant procedures, documentation and training in place.
-Continually review for improvements to laboratory best practices and improvements to optimise microbiological test methods.
-Conduct internal and external quality audits as required and ensuring audit readiness is maintained.
-Ensure the Microbiology laboratory operates within budget and seeking improved ways of working to increase the laboratory cost effectiveness.
Proven experience in a similar role or a pharmaceutical/associated industry.
-Demonstrated people management skills.
-High level of microbiological knowledge and expertise for testing methods, laboratory management and factory facilities/equipment.
-Working knowledge of IT systems and their validation e.g. LIMS.
-Qualified Microbiologist or related science to Degree level.
-Achievement focussed and able to work in a pressurised environment
-Ability to work with and influence cross functional teams in particular the Operations Team and Engineering Teams
