AMS Nuclear Engineering Ltd (AMS) designs, builds and supplies Control & Instrumentation based systems across the UK’s nuclear industry, whether that be into the nuclear new build, nuclear power generation, decommissioning or defence sectors. Projects vary from small scoping and feasibility studies to the design of complex systems with high integrity safety functions. Our engineers typically have multiple projects progressing at any one time ensuring a good variety of work.

We now have an opportunity for an EC&I Design Engineer to join the team delivering exceptional solutions to our clients.
What you’ll be doing
JOB PURPOSE:
To be responsible primarily to the Engineering Manager working on projects across the nuclear sector including in new build, existing generation, decommissioning and defence. The role will require good communication skills with both the customer and the AMS engineering and management teams and be responsible for taking ownership of, and sourcing solutions to, any issues that arise in completion of the projects.
Projects range from the specification of a single instrument to complete system specifications and design packages including system build, site installation and commissioning. The EC&I Design Engineer is responsible for delivering the detailed design deliverables listed in the Main Duties section below.
The candidate would work from our offices in Bridgwater with some flexibility for occasional work from home. There may occasionally be the need for overnight stays when conducting on site visits.
MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Production of Block Cable Diagrams, Single Line Diagrams, General Arrangement Drawings and Wiring Schematics using AutoCAD.
* Production of Equipment Schedules (electrical and instrumentation)
* Be capable of correct EC&I equipment specification
* Ensure projects allocated are delivered on time and to budget.
* Communicate with customers, build relationships and develop further opportunities for AMS.
* Communicate effectively with AMS project team ensuring positive working relationships and encourage flow of project information is maintained to ensure accurate knowledge of project status.
* Be able to work effectively as part of a team on projects run by others.
* Represent the company at meetings with clients and sub-contractors.
PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:
Workplace: 1604-1605 Carnival Way, North Petherton, Bridgwater, TA6 6GY, with occasional work from home
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Working pattern: Optional 4- or 5-day working week. Same hours worked per week but spread over either Monday -Thursday or Monday to Friday.
What you’ll need
We are looking for someone with the following:
* 2 years’+ experience in an EC&I Engineer role
* Have relevant sound technical experience and engineering qualifications (HNC minimum)
* Experience of designing EC&I systems
* Experience of EC&I equipment and its application in conventional and safety applications.
* Ability to understand requirements and ensure that the design meets them
* Awareness of health and safety regulations
* Good self-planning and self-organisation skills
* Ability to technically author design drawings / documents, using clear and concise language and grammar
* Have no restrictions to obtain security clearance for government and regulated industries.
* HND Qualified or higher
* Nuclear Industry experience
* Functional safety knowledge (IEC 61508 or IEC 61513)
* Knowledge of PLC programming and system integration
* Knowledge of standards compliance
* Trained in and able to apply BS7671 IET Wiring Regulations to designs
