Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
Throughout the apprenticeship, you’ll work at our brand-new Film & TV Hub in Wembley whilst also gaining direct experience on production sets, where you will learn to:
* Service and prepare equipment for Film & TV productions
* Ensure all equipment is well maintained and fully operational for production rental requirements, ensuring customers receive all equipment correctly and in a timely manner, and that all items are returned on completion of the hire period
* Review all equipment following hire periods and assess for any repair requirements
* Ensure all equipment is correctly packed and loaded for transport to production sets, whilst following all mandatory Health & Safety procedures
* Work in an organised and efficient manner, following all company procedures to maintain an effective operational environment
* Assist a variety of equipment teams within the Wembley Hub
* Work on production sets and alongside a lighting crew, helping with production lighting setups and managing the equipment
* Become an ambassador for our “Customer First” culture, resolving any issues quickly and keeping your colleagues and customers informed, so they feel truly valued
* Manage multiple tasks and deadlines as part of a varied workday in a fast-paced operational environment

Course contents
* Interpret system specifications and drawings such as sound, lighting or video.
* Prepare system specifications and drawings.
* Use specialist software systems such as computer aided design and asset management to extract information and input basic information.
* Assemble systems to support production, live performance or events from component parts using correct tools.
* Troubleshoot and fault find issues in discrete pieces of equipment.
* Deploy, operate and maintain technical equipment and tools.
* Prepare, test, repair and maintain lighting, sound or video equipment and systems.
* Collaborate with stakeholders and adapt communication appropriately to suit the audience.
* Use digital collaboration tools to collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders.
* Direct team members taking into consideration their level of experience.
* Interpret and apply method statements in response to dynamic risk assessment to help ensure safe planning and delivery of work processes.

* Undertake stage crafts such as basic scenic construction, carpentry, metalwork, stage machinery, props, scene changes, knots and terminations.
* Trouble shoot, fault find and carry out basic repairs to creative venue and production systems.
* As directed, inspect, test and maintain creative venue systems and production systems.
* Program and operate production control consoles. Undertake cueing and operation during the live performance or event.
* Trouble shoot, fault find and repair at sub assembly and component level.
* Calibrate equipment and systems to meet production requirements.
* Identify, specify and use components, systems and products applicable for the environment.
* Identify and undertake servicing requirements in line with manufacturer recommendations.

* Adapt lighting to meet short notice creative changes in the production design or script.
* Prepare and operate extra low voltage lighting equipment and systems.
* Identify the dangers and restrictions in the use of battery supplies including charging and mitigate for these.

Your training plan
You will complete a level 3 Creative Industries Production Technician Apprenticeship Standard, following the Live Event Technician pathway.
This programme will be delivered using a combination of:
* Workplace experience to gain practical skills
* Guidance and training from an experienced workplace mentor
* Industry recognised training leading to an apprenticeship qualification. You will attend training workshops both online and in person. These will take place within the workplace and at other training locations

You will be required to travel independently and attend residential training weeks at college. Travel and accommodation arrangements will be provided by the company.
