We are looking to appoint enthusiastic, forward-thinking Senior doctors to join our dynamic, highly supportive, friendly Emergency Department based in Glangwili General Hospital.
These posts are for senior level doctors within the ED team. The successful applicant would be expected to be the senior doctor on-site after-hours dealing with acutely unwell patients, be able to supervise and support junior staff, and help coordinate the flow of patients in the ED (with the support of the on-call ED consultant).
The Emergency Department (ED) is an access point for all medical and surgical emergencies for both adults and paediatrics, and is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The ED sees in excess of 40,000 presentations a year. The ED consists of a nurse-led Triage facility with an early assessment / ‘Pitstop’ bay; a 3 bay Resuscitation area; 8 monitored and 7 non-monitored cubicles in the Majors area (part of which has been re-designated as a non-Covid Resuscitation area). There is a co-located Minor Injuries Unit that is led by independent Emergency Nurse Practitioners (open from 0800-2000hrs, 7 days a week).
The ED is the designated regional Trauma Unit for the Hywel Dda area under the auspices of the South Wales Major Trauma Network. There is an MRI adjacent to the ED as well as a Plaster room staffed by a team of plaster technicians. We also have an ultrasound machine within the department and the ability to supervise and sign-off Level 1 Emergency Medicine Ultrasound competencies.
We work closely with the Adult Clinical Decision Unit, Paediatric Ambulatory Care Unit, and the Same Day Emergency Centre.
