Job overview
Due to extensive growth within our medical directorate, we have a wonderful opportunity to join Mid and South Essex Hospitals as a Senior Clinical Fellow.
You will have the opportunity to join the highly performing Stroke Unit in Basildon University Hospital and be responsible for delivering Acute Stroke services to the population in the Basildon and Thurrock area.
Our Stroke department is recognised as a regional centre of excellence and provides a caring and comprehensive service for all aspects of stroke treatment for the population of Basildon and Essex.
Main duties of the job
1. First class opportunity to undertake clinical assessment of a suspected stroke or TIA in an adult patient referred as an emergency to hospital or in an out-patient setting.
2. Supervised learning to:
1. Arrange and interpret appropriate investigations, self-sufficiency in imaging like brain scan and carotid Doppler to support or exclude diagnosis of a suspected stroke or TIA and its cause.
2. Manage hyper acute treatment for stroke TIA and common stroke mimics with current and emerging interventional management of patients undergoing cerebral reperfusion therapies in acute ischaemic stroke.
3. Manage immediate post-acute care of stroke including end-of-life care for stroke patients.
4. Able to manage secondary prevention strategies following stroke or TIA.
3. You will contribute to post-discharge medical care, rehabilitation, and longer term social and vocational integration, recruit in multi centre trials of stroke as an independent recruiter and able to design and help existing research projects and have opportunities to contribute to the development of a Stroke service and provide leadership to such a service.

* Minimum of 3 years experience in stroke.
* Previous experience at SpR ST2 or equivalent level.
* Delivery of good Acute clinical care.

* Experience of working in an NHS setting.
* Ability to develop and maintain a sub-specialty interest.
* Evidence of audit participation.
Qualifications
Essential criteria
* MRCP PACES.
* MBBS.
Desirable criteria
* PLAB 2.
* ALS.
* FRCS or equivalent.
