MATERNITY COVER POSITION- We have a job opportunity for a nursery Deputy Manager role to start the beginning of January 2025. You will be expected to work in the room ratios to support the room leaders and work in the office to support the manager running the nursery.
The official qualification needed for this role is a fully relevant Level 3 or above qualification in childcare. You will need to be dynamic, have the ability to lead part of a team, and be able to use your initiative and time to manage your day effectively to ensure the smooth running of the rooms. Having worked with children before is essential.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established team and to work closely with the Nursery Manager, the management team, and the Directors.
The nursery has an excellent reputation and we want to maintain the excellent standards that the nursery has already been accredited for when we received ‘Good in all areas in our last Ofsted inspection. The nursery team is working hard to strive to achieve outstanding for the next inspection.

Location: Roundabout Nursery, Kesgrave, Ipswich, Suffolk
Salary: Range £27,560 per annum for full time (this post is pro-rata to a part time role of £13.25 per hour)
Hours: Contracted for maternity leave to work 19 hours per week, 7.30 am- 6 pm Monday and Wednesdays all year round
Essential Requirements:
* At least one year nursery Deputy Manager experience
* DBS certificate/ Clean criminal record- signed up to the renewal service
* Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
* Paediatric First Aid certificate
* Safeguarding children certificate and happy to train as DSL with a course provided
* Full Level 3 or above Childcare qualification- the applicant must have already achieved their level 3 qualification
* Have some SENCO experience, to support the Manager who is SENCo for the setting
Key Areas and Responsibilities:
* To provide high quality care and learning experiences
* To support in establishing a high quality and financially sustainable nursery, overseeing all aspects of the day-to-day business and administrative practices where required
* To provide a safe environment
* To ensure that children reach their full potential
* To support the team to provide an enabling environment in which all individual children can play, learn and develop
* To continually research and reflect on practices in the industry to ensure that outstanding practice is always implemented
* Prepare timely and accurate reports to Nursery Manager/Senior Team as required with information relating to the quality of the provision and anything else deemed necessary
* Help the Manager with selection and safe recruitment of staff
* Ensure that all correct policies, procedures and practices are adhered to
* Understanding the safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures for the setting and local authority procedures
* To help the manager deliver staff personal development reviews and supervision when required
* Support the selection and recruitment of a balanced staff team, using safe recruitment policies and procedures

* If a child requests that they be a captain of a pirate ship, they will be the best pirate captain they can be!
* Feels comfortable telling everybody in the same room as them that they are going to the toilet!
* Doesn't have to have the ability to be able to sing in tune but must have the confidence to sing out of tune in front of a crowd.
* Must be able to distribute warm hugs, as and when required.
* Must possess the skills required to rapidly count the heads of numerous moving small people. This is of the utmost importance.
* Must be comfortable entering public places on the way home from work, with unknown substances on their clothing.
* Must have a high level of comfort talking about bodily functions.
* Must have the ability to pretend to eat playdough creations realistically. This is an essential requirement along with drinking numerous cups of pretend tea.
* Must have the ability to read a ten-page story, upside down, with at least 4 interruptions per page.
* Must be prepared to have lots of fun in the workplace. Laughter is something you can expect to engage in for a large part of your working day.
* Loves being outside come rain or shine. At Roundabout Nursery we love the great outdoors.
* Finally, you must be prepared to feel loved, special, and important to many young children and their families. There is simply no other job quite like it.
