Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
Outpatient clinics, both Elective and Trauma, seeing a mixture of new and follow-up patients under the supervision of the consultant and independently.
A responsibility for coordination of the upper limb trauma service, liaising with the consultants and trauma coordinators ensuring patients are appropriately prioritized and prepared for surgery.
Assisting in operating theatres and conducting parallel operating lists when appropriate/commensurate with operating ability. The timetable will include 2-3 Operating lists and 2-3 clinics per week.
Supervision and training of foundation doctors, core trainees, and middle grades in the day-to-day management of upper limb elective and emergent conditions.
Daily review of upper limb inpatients.
Presenting monthly mortality & morbidity statistics and participating in departmental teaching meetings.
Teaching and training staff in other medical disciplines, nursing, and support staff as appropriate.
Be prepared to participate in management duties within the department and the Trust.
The fellow is not expected to be part of the middle grade on-call rota.

Academic Achievements and Research
Essential Criteria
* Research relevant to trauma and orthopaedics.
* Able to appraise scientific literature critically.
Desirable Criteria
* Publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Education, Training and Qualifications
Essential Criteria
* Six years experience as a middle grade registrar.
* 12 months experience in upper limb surgery.
* FRCS (Tr + Orth).
* Wide range of experience in Trauma and Orthopaedics.
* Full registration with the UK GMC.
Desirable Criteria
* CCT in Trauma and Orthopaedics.
* Broad range of experience in general trauma provision.
* Completion of 12 months Upper limb Fellowship.
Teaching & Clinical Governance
Essential Criteria
* Evidence of teaching at under/postgraduate level.
* Effective participation in audit (inc. Trauma & Elective).
* Capacity to be alert to dangers, reporting, and learning from errors.
Desirable Criteria
* Postgraduate teaching qualification.
