EPUT is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and passionate Consultant Psychiatrist to join and lead on the Assessment unit, Peter Bruff ward. This unit provides a 17-bed mixed sex ward with expected patient stays of 5-7 days.
The successful candidate will have shared responsibility for the clinical care of those patients admitted to the in-patient unit on Peter Bruff ward, working closely with a colleague consultant who shares 50% of the case load. The consultant will collaborate with the team and the ward manager to ensure effective service provision.
The trust actively supports newly qualified consultants in continuing professional development, enabling them to pursue educational and research interests that enhance high-quality care and patient safety. We have excellent links with the medical school at ARU and other educational establishments for shared appointments in teaching and research.
You must have full GMC registration and be on the Specialist Register, with an appropriate CCT or equivalent, or be within six months of obtaining your CCT on the date of the AAC.

* Work closely with other consultant colleagues to ensure that the patient journey is as smooth as possible.
* Provide clinical leadership and actively liaise with general practitioners, psychiatrists, and other hospital specialists, statutory and non-statutory agencies, whenever relevant to the care and treatment of patients.
* Be committed to a multidisciplinary approach to care.
* Use evidence-based interventions at all times.
* Offer a consistent response to referrers/service users regardless of origin of the referral in a timely fashion.
* Offer an accurate diagnosis and timely interventions to prevent chronicity and dependency on psychiatric services, in accordance with the recovery model.
* Attend Mental Health Act assessments as requested for relevant patients.
* Act as the Responsible Clinician for inpatients including attending Tribunals, as necessary.
* Participate in the development and maintenance of care programmes for patients.
* Supervise junior and middle grade doctors in the team.
* Participate in the teaching programmes of the multidisciplinary team.
* Contribute to the collection of clinical information to ensure further service development and to enable audit.
* Work closely with consultant colleagues to contribute to the provision of appropriate Consultant cover for daytime, 9 am to 5 pm, (working days) and for periods of annual/study/special leave.
* Participate in the on-call Consultant rota primarily for advice; Consultants are on the 3rd Tier of on call.
* Participate in clinical governance and teaching activities.
* Contribute to the day-to-day management and to the overall service development agenda through appropriate involvement with managerial and clinical colleagues.
* Undergo annual appraisal and fulfil the requirements of continuing professional development (CPD) to meet the criteria for revalidation by the General Medical Council.
* Agree a job plan with the Clinical Director.
* Attend Trust Wide Medical Staffing Committee and other Management forums.
