The Breast Unit in Oxford sees approximately 8,000 referrals per year with over 600 newly diagnosed patients with breast cancer. They are treated at the Cancer Centre at the Churchill Hospital, (which is also home to the NHS Breast Screening Programme), and at the Horton Hospital in Banbury. We have an enthusiastic multidisciplinary team with one stop clinics supported by 6 breast radiologists and 3 breast pathologists, medical and clinical oncologists, cancer genetics, plastic
surgery and lymphoedema services. The fellow will be working under the supervision of 6 consultants (3 are part-time). The unit provides a full range of Oncoplastic breast surgery service in collaboration with the plastic surgery team, who provide a free-flap reconstruction service
Elective
The post holder’s duties will be across the various hospitals in the Trust. The post-holder will work predominantly on the Breast Unit as a senior fellow. The successful candidate will have regular access to operating lists, with exposure to the complete range of oncoplastic procedures; oncoplastic and results clinics for training in various aspects of planning and counselling patients for their appropriate oncological and reconstructive procedures. The post holder will be expected to provide support to the diagnostic and follow-up clinics
Research & Audit:
The successful candidate will be expected to engage in the research and audit activities of the department.
Teaching:
Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust is a teaching hospital Trust, and the postholder will be required to participate in programmes for teaching clinical students, training junior doctors and in clinical examinations. The post-holder’s contribution to teaching, training, and research will be included in the regular job plan review.
Clinical Governance
The post-holder will participate in clinical governance activities, including clinical audit, clinical effectiveness, risk management, quality improvement activities as required by the Trust, Health Authorities, and external accrediting bodies.
Personal and Professional Development
The post-holder will be required to keep himself/herself fully up-to-date with their relevant area of practice and to be able to demonstrate this to the satisfaction of the Trust.
