The Education Improvement and Standards team aims to deliver outstanding services for our customers, primarily the children of Coventry, who may require access to education or alternative education provision. We ensure vulnerable children are appropriately supported, have a voice, and achieve high standards and progress.
The Service comprises various teams working together to recognize, support, and implement innovative solutions to address challenges in educating some of our most vulnerable pupils.
The service is responsible for delivering statutory duties for the Council regarding:
1. Pupil attendance enforcement
2. Children Missing Education
3. 6th day provision for permanently excluded pupils
4. Administration of the Fair Access and Supported Transfer process
5. Child licensing and employment

Job Role
An opportunity has arisen for the position of Access to Education Officer within our Access to Education Team, part of the Attendance and Children Missing Education Team. This is a full-time (37 hours), fixed-term contract for 12 months.
The team supports the admission of children and young people from overseas and manages statutory duties related to Children Missing Education. Responsibilities include supporting newly arrived families, investigating children missing education, and managing licensing for children in entertainment and employment.
This position is exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974; appointment is contingent upon a satisfactory DBS check.
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will have experience dealing with the public, excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to support families from diverse backgrounds, especially those overseas. They should be polite, approachable, able to work independently and as part of a team, with high attention to detail, computer literacy, and the ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment.
The role involves ensuring children and young people from overseas access educational opportunities promptly and that children missing education are effectively investigated. Confidentiality and flexibility are essential.
