Fantastic opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist with a passion for working with Older People. Whether you're experienced or newly qualified - we want to hear from you (B7 preceptorships will be considered). The successful candidate will be a part of a vibrant and growing Older Peoples Psychological Therapies Secondary Care provision in Stockport.
The role is interesting, varied, and diverse, working with a variety of presenting problems, undertaking complex psychological assessments and interventions, working with MDTs to develop collaborative trauma-informed formulations that support staff and inform patient care. There are a lot of great opportunities to make a difference.
The post is part time (33 hrs) and will involve working within our Older Peoples Secondary Care Mental Health Services. As a service, we are supportive, devoted, and compassionate clinicians. The post will predominantly involve working with a friendly and compassionate OPCMHT and female organic ward.
We also have a dedicated and passionate psychological therapies leadership team who are keen to ensure the older people's pathway continues to evolve and develop to provide safe and high-quality trauma-informed care. Main duties of the job
To provide a qualified specialist clinical psychology service for older people within the Older People's CMHT and 10 bedded female organic ward.
The role involves direct and indirect work. The post holder will manage their own clinical caseload, and provide specialist assessments, formulations and interventions (including neuropsychology assessments).
A key function of the role will be to help staff develop a psychological understanding and context for service users and carers.
Operating in an integrated and inclusive style, you will contribute to the multidisciplinary work through case formulation, consultation, training, supervision, and joint working to support the development of psychological thinking, skills, knowledge, and individual care planning.
The post holder will propose and implement evidence-based practice, utilising research skills for audit and service developments.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The successful candidate will work closely with a clinical psychologist, a principal clinical psychologist, and multi-disciplinary professionals at a time of innovation and change. We envisage there will be lots of opportunities to help with service development and evaluation.
Person specification
Education / Qualifications
Essential criteria
* Doctoral level training in clinical psychology.
* (D. Clin Psych) including specific models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychological assessments, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan development psychology as accredited by the BPS.
* Completion of training in supervision of trainee clinical psychologist.
Desirable criteria
* Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and / or other fields of applied psychology.
* Further training / qualification in a specialist therapy, model of consultation or leadership skills.
Experience
Essential criteria
* Completion of at least two years post-doctoral / post qualification supervised clinical experience as a specialist clinical psychologist in a relevant field of practice.
* Experience of specialist psychological assessment, formulation and intervention for service users presenting with complexity in a variety of settings including primary and secondary care, community, outpatient and inpatient settings.
* Strong interest and experience of working with older people service users with severe / complex needs.
* Experience of working with a wide variety of service user groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
* MDT working (including across community and acute care pathways).
* Experience of teaching, training, consultation and supervision.
Desirable criteria
* Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
* Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology.
* Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS.
* Knowledge of the practice implications of the National policy and guidance with secondary care service users.
* Knowledge of legislation in relation to the secondary care service users and mental health.
Desirable criteria
* Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups (e.g. personality disorder, dual diagnosis, people with additional disabilities etc.).
* High-level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies.
* Formal training in the supervision of other psychologists.
Skills and Abilities
Essential criteria
* Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
* Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing complex, highly technical and / or clinically sensitive information to service users, their families and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
* Skills in providing consultation to other professional and nonprofessional groups.
* Ability to teach and train others using a variety of complex and multi-media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings.
* Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.
Desirable criteria
* Experience of working with a multicultural framework.
* Strong interest and experience of working with Secondary Care service users.
* Strong interest in developing ways of increasing psychologically based interventions in acute care settings.
Work Related Circumstances
Essential criteria
* Use of a car or access to a means of mobility to travel across the Trust footprint in line with service needs.
