Our Mission At Vertical Aerospace, we are pioneering the way for electric aviation. The VX4, our eVTOL (electric, vertical, take-off and landing), 'zero emissions' aircraft will set a new safety standard for how we will navigate the sky. We won't realise our mission following the same legacy processes and traditions our predecessors followed, instead, we want to 'redefine' aerospace best practices. We are growing quickly from a prototype business to a scaling SME, and the next few years will be critical to our success and delivering on our ambitious goals of having the VX4 in service by 2030. What to expect As a Senior High Voltage Design Engineer, you will join a growing team of passionate individuals whose primary focus is to develop, design and test the high-voltage electrical hardware and systems, that will harness and distribute the energy and power for our fully electric VX4 aircraft. A typical day could range from developing sophisticated HV distribution systems to working on electro-mechanical integration within the battery system, to performing detailed studies for various HV architectures and collaborating with cross-functional teams. The ability to quickly figure things out and make decisions at pace as well as act a team mentor will all factor into this role's impact and your success. What you'll do You will be responsible for the overall design and development of the Aircraft HV distribution systems design and all electro-mechanical integration within the battery system. You will own the analysis of functional, behavioural and performance requirements as well as the logical design, architectural design and functional decomposition and allocation. You will design system electrical drawings, harnesses and interfaces and perform detailed studies to lead the design of HV architectures. You will be developing HV electrical system architecture at the battery and vehicle level, designing power distribution units and electronics integration within the battery pack. You will be responsible for preparing and managing key documents, from design concepts to detailed electronic CAD/3DX drawings. You will act as a mentor and coach to junior engineers in the Powertrain team. What you'll bring Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering. Deep knowledge and understanding of HV architecture and designs. Strong experience working with HV (>400V) AC or DC systems. Detailed design experience including connectors, integration, harness and mechanical design. System engineering methodology experience: Requirement capture, functional trees, etc. Experience designing Electrical diagrams drawings in CATIA. Experience with Harness development 2D and 3D in CATIA. Strong background in designing power distribution units. What can you expect from us? We're on a mission. Where others see limits, we see opportunity, and we work at pace.
