This is a newly commissioned service and forms part of a wider offer of accommodation in the Gateshead borough. We support residents who have multiple, complex needs and vulnerabilities. They may have been homeless or at risk of homelessness. We work hard to ensure that everyone has a chance to “get to a better place.” We provide a safe and welcoming property working in line with Psychologically informed environment principles. As a Support Worker, you’ll work closely with residents developing a professional and trusting relationship, ensuring each resident gets the help they need to get on with their lives, gain confidence and independent living skills, connect and engage with local services, sustain accommodation, and move on to something more permanent. You will work closely with the residents to help them develop the skills they need to live more independently, from basic budgeting, shopping, and cooking, to helping them navigate the benefits system and prepare to sustain a tenancy of their own. Some experience of working with vulnerable people may be useful but what's really important is having empathy, communicating well, and listening. It's a challenging job but an incredibly rewarding one.
