At Brownhills Ormiston Academy we are looking for an enthusiastic candidate who will actively and positively promote Computer Science and ICT within the academy and develop engaging and challenging material. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing the vision for the faculty, as well as leading the Computer Science and ICT department.
This role does not require previous experience as a Head of Department or Lead Teacher but does require the skills of teaching expertise, leadership and decision-making, administrative accuracy and excellent organisational skills, all combined with empathy, patience and humour to build rapport with our pupils. This is a fantastic opportunity for colleagues looking for their first step into leadership. With our extensive support and professional development through line management, dedicated meetings and CPD, the successful candidate will be given the opportunity to develop their leadership skills.
We currently offer KS4 qualifications in ICT and Computer Science. Applicants able to demonstrate experience/knowledge of these qualifications would be at an advantage; however, we also welcome applications from colleagues who are willing to lead and teach these qualifications.
Working with SLT and OAT Lead Practitioners you will ensure the development of teaching practices of others within the department/subject area. As well as take accountability for leading, managing and developing the curriculum and standards within the department.
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate commitment, energy, and drive to join our team and work to provide positive learning experiences for all our pupils.
The Successful Candidate Will
* Possess a teaching qualification and will be a highly competent classroom practitioner.
* Demonstrate knowledge of how children learn and assessment for learning as well as how to effectively manage behaviour.
* Strategically lead the curriculum development and teaching of GCSE Computer Science and BTEC Digital Information Technology.
* Ensure the high standards of pupil attainment and achievement within the whole curriculum and will monitor and support pupil progress.
* Quality assure teaching and learning in the department.
* Keep up to date with national and local developments in religious education.
* Facilitate and lead learning experiences outside of the classroom.
* Have high expectations of self, pupils and academy for standards of teaching and learning.
* Be ambitious, career driven, and have a firm commitment to raising whole school achievement.
* Inspire pupils and staff through a passionate commitment to the subject.
* Have experience in monitoring and evaluating standards of teaching and learning through observation, sampling pupils’ work and pupil feedback.
* Have experience in overseeing effective assessment, recording and reporting of pupil progress.
* Possess strong curriculum knowledge.
* Possess clear communication skills and the ability to relate well to both pupils and staff.
* Have a passion for teaching and learning, celebrating success and encouraging all to aspire, achieve and excel.
* Strong organisational, personal time management and planning skills.
* Have the knowledge and experience of/willingness to learn about effective leadership and management of people/management of change in an educational setting.
* Have the ability to use all Microsoft Office packages to a proficient standard.
* Have the ability to work well in a team and independently.
