Electrical Estimator
Manchester City Centre
Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 per annum
Hours: 40 hours per week, 8am – 5pm or 9am – 6pm, Monday – Friday
My client a North West based electrical and mechanical engineering contractor, boasting a prolific portfolio spanning all manner of works, including lighting, heating, air-conditioning, ventilation, plumbing, power, communications, security, and much more, offering services in conception and design, procurement, project management, installation, commissioning and hand over, through to preventative maintenance programs and emergency repairs.
Due to expansion, currently seeking an Electrical Estimator.
The Electrical Estimator you will determine the approximate costs of various electrical installations for industrial and commercial projects. The electrical estimator’s responsibilities include determining how long each contracting job will last, researching market prices for project materials and equipment, and communicating with clients to determine the scope of each project. You should also be able to identify ways to continually improve cost-estimating procedures to reduce inconsistencies between estimated and actual project costs. The ideal candidate will be experienced in BDM and sales, ideally with experience working within the industry.
Key responsibilities
1. Assist with the preparation and submission of competitive tenders, estimates and quotations.
2. Determining the amount, type, and cost of materials and fixtures needed for each electrical project.
3. Determining the amount of labour required to complete each project.
4. Determining the potential profitability of electrical projects to assist management in making sound bidding decisions.
5. Completing and submitting competitive project bids in accordance with established guidelines.
6. Prepare take offs from tender documents.
7. Employ the use of our specialised tender software.
8. Liaise with clients, architects, consultants, contractors and suppliers.
9. Work well under pressure, to ensure tenders are submitted completely and accurately and within the time scale provided.
10. React to adaptions and learn to produce value engineering solutions as required.
11. Help to ensure a smooth handover of the project to the site team.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
12. Qualification in engineering or equivalent experience.
13. A level equivalent in literacy, numeracy and technology.
14. Experience of tendering for O&M contracts and private networks.
15. Experience of establishing strategic and operational partnerships.
16. Wide experience of handling complex and sensitive business / commercial information, both internally and externally in confidence.
17. Experience in delivering successful tenders.
18. Demonstrative experience in project management and process improvement.
19. Comfortable with uncertainty and multitasking.
20. Proactive, autonomous, self-motivated, and goal-driven.
21. Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite and basic computing tasks.
22. Experience of working within construction and/or a services environment desirable but not essential
23. Personable with good communication skills, including being confident in building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
