Are you an Electrical Design Engineer looking for your next venture? Our client, a leading UK government owned nuclear services technology provider is looking for a customer facing Electrical Design Engineer to join their team in Workington. As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will play an essential role in delivering projects that few others in the sector are tackling, all while contributing to the advancement of cleaner energy solutions and safe nuclear practices.
Joining the Remote Engineering Design & Robotics Team, you will design and develop bespoke remote handling equipment, robotic systems, and tooling for nuclear operations. This role encompasses a full project lifecycle, including consultancy, concept design, detailed design, manufacturing, testing, and on-site operations. Key areas of focus include supporting plant intervention, radioactive waste processing, and decommissioning operations.
Core Responsibilities: Electrical Design Engineer
1. Use AutoCAD to produce 2D detailed design drawings and schematics for control panels, machinery, and instrumentation.
2. Conduct and document detailed technical and design calculations.
3. Support the build, installation, and commissioning of plant equipment and inactive test rigs for trialling new technologies.
4. Prepare critical product safety documentation, including risk assessments, method statements, and maintenance manuals.
5. Provide guidance to technicians and oversee the procurement process, including developing specifications and inspecting deliveries.
6. Produce technical reports and documentation as required.
7. Ensure adherence to all legislative, regulatory, and company standards, including CE/UKCA marking, safety, quality, and risk policies.
Key Requirements: Electrical Design Engineer
1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineering or related field with relevant experience.
2. Experience with 2D CAD design packages, ideally AutoCAD.
3. Working knowledge of safety legislation, quality standards, and CE/UKCA marking requirements.
4. Familiarity with nuclear plant operations and remote operations equipment.
5. Project experience from concept design through to delivery.
6. Ability to obtain SC-level security clearance, which includes 5 years of UK residency (you can start the role without this).
7. IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent safety management qualification preferred.
8. Ability to serve as a Laboratory Task Supervisor and provide technical mentorship.
