Clinical Education Transfusion Training Facilitator
We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic experienced Registered Healthcare Professional to join our Transfusion Team. This is a permanent position and is well suited to someone that has excellent communication and clinical skills, who is interested in developing their knowledge and expertise in the speciality field of transfusion.
This post will commence at Band 5, but provide the development opportunity for an individual to demonstrate their potential to achieve competencies and learning to fulfil the Band 6 role, or, for an individual who already meets all the person specifications and competency requirements, to commence at Band 6.
The Transfusion Team work to ensure our patients receive safe and appropriate transfusions by providing education and training opportunities, specialist transfusion clinical support and advice for our clinical teams.
We are part of the Education Team, but are based in Pathology, working alongside our UHDB Blood Bank colleagues. The role will support the Patient Blood Management Lead in the development, implementation and provision of training and competency assessment for all staff involved in the transfusion process.
Main duties of the job
You will:
* Develop skills, enabling you to supervise and provide specialist advice in the training of all staff involved with the transfusion process, from collection of the blood sample to the fate of the component.
* Assist in developing, facilitating and implementing a strategy for transfusion skills to provide training for all clinical staff within the Trust and Royal Primary Care.
* Help to facilitate and deliver recognised clinical skills and simulation-based courses, for all disciplines within the Trust and assist in the development of in-situ simulation-based courses for all disciplines within the Trust and assist in the development of in-situ simulated transfusion training.
* Work as part of the Transfusion Team to provide specialist, evidence-based advice and on-going clinical support to all staff in the Trust, with regard to blood transfusion and patient blood management.
* Provide support to deliver the blood transfusion skills element of the undergraduate clinical curriculum.
* Support the completion of audits of transfusion practice, from collection of blood to the end of transfusion.
* Support the Patient Blood Management Lead in the development, delivery and evaluation of all programmes to meet service priorities and quality standards.

We are a small dedicated team who support the transfusion activity across the whole hospital, based in Pathology but part of the wider education team.
The Transfusion Team provides education and development opportunities for all staff to enable them to deliver person-centred care with the key focus on safe, effective, and appropriate use of blood products and components.

Person specification
Qualifications and Training
* Registered Healthcare Professional
* Be a Practice Assessor of students within the clinical area
* Degree level education or equivalent experience in acute clinical area
* Practice Supervisor of students within the clinical area
Experience
* Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience in an acute healthcare environment
* Established knowledge and experience of caring for and management of patients undergoing blood transfusion
* Experience in training, assessing and staff development
* Mentoring experience
* Evidence of undertaking local and national audits
* Experience of simulation-based training
* Experience in leading within a clinical healthcare role
* Developing educational sessions and/or simulation scenarios
Skills and Knowledge
* Up-to-date knowledge of transfusion practice
* Venepuncture competence
* Teaching, presentation and facilitation skills
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Ability to engage collaboratively with the wider health care team
* Background understanding of transfusion science and an in-depth knowledge of all aspects of transfusion practice
