Our civil engineering client is seeking a Senior Engineer to support Portsmouth Water with the Havant Thicket Reservoir project on a permanent basis.

Responsibilities
1. Manage site engineers and ensure all surveying, setting out, and volume checks are completed in a timely manner and in accordance with the specification.
2. Interpolate GI data, designs, and specifications to produce accurate quantities & earthworks phasing 3D models.
3. Manage all machine control setup and operation including 3D modelling and on-site accuracy.
4. Maintain excellent communication and reporting to QA & project manager to ensure compliance with specification testing frequencies based on actual earthwork volumes.
5. Monitor earthworks progress and accurately report weekly volumes to senior management.
6. Mentor apprentice engineers to ensure career progression and improve skill level.
7. Support and promote innovation and new technology relating to earthwork operations.
8. Ensure all activities are completed safely in compliance with the company's health and safety & environmental policies and procedures.
9. Support the preparation of quality, environmental and H&S construction plans in a timely manner.
10. Support the planning, measuring, monitoring, and reviewing of contract progress throughout the project's lifespan and ensure the project's budgets and programme is met.
11. Complete and ensure the accurate setting out and surveying of all aspects of the works.
12. Interpret engineering drawings and specifications and ensure the accurate construction of the works in accordance with client requirements.
13. Provide sufficient and accurate information to the site Works Management to ensure timely construction of the works.
14. Assist with ensuring adequate plant, labour, subcontract, and material resources are available in a timely manner to comply with the project's timescales.
15. Assist with the process of ensuring the timely procurement and payment of suppliers and subcontractors in accordance with company procedures and monitor their performance including financial aspects throughout the project.
16. Identify potential problem areas and financial impacts in sufficient time to ensure adequate provisions have been made within forecast accounts.
17. Assist with the resolution of contractual issues with both clients and suppliers while also maintaining a good relationship.
Skills/Experience/Qualifications
1. Degree or HND in Civil Engineering.
2. Demonstrable leadership skills and experience in a similar role.
3. Strong computer literacy and good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, CAD, and LSS surveying packages.
4. Excellent knowledge of Topcon/Trimble/Leica machine control/calibrations including setup/applications.
5. Attention to detail ensuring maximum accuracy.
6. Highly competent in surveying and setting out techniques using GPS and Total Stations.
7. Good commercial awareness with effective influencing and negotiating skills, as well as an aptitude to develop emerging and new client relationships.
8. Experience of managing and mentoring junior engineers.
9. Excellent knowledge of current civil engineering legislation as well as Health & Safety and Environmental legislation.
10. Highly developed professional communication and negotiation skills, including writing and presentation of reports, preparing business management documents, and presenting information in meetings with clients and other parties.
11. The ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
12. The ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in both mathematical or diagrammatic form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
13. Demonstrable ability to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines supported by strong organisational skills.
14. Excellent communicator, both written and oral, with the ability to adapt communication style to suit different circumstances.
15. Full UK Driving Licence is also required.
16. More generally, you will need to be committed, reliable, flexible both in terms of UK travel (and staying away overnight where required) and range of tasks performed and possess a good team-working ethic.
