Property Market Lead (Equity Release) Salary: £85,000 for York location Here at Aviva, we are on the lookout for a Property Market Lead with experience of management and dealing with senior executives, to join our Equity Release (ER) business. This role would be a great fit for a leader who has extensive knowledge of Residential Property Market, as they will be accountable for driving a residential property underwriting strategy for Aviva. A bit about the job: It will be the responsibility of the role holder to ensure that the properties that Aviva Equity Release takes as security for its Lifetime Mortgages represent an acceptable risk, with the focus on future saleability and value. This encompasses ownership of the property lending criteria for the Equity Release business, updating the senior leadership and Board on issues facing the business and changes to the underwriting criteria, managing the professional relationship with our external valuers, ensuring underwriters’ competence in property matters through training and mentoring, and taking individual large loan and complex property underwriting decisions. The role delivers rigorous and competitive property lending criteria and ensures that the back book (currently £12bn in loans) is sound, reducing the risk of potential for future losses, and the role holder acts as the public face of property aspects of the Equity Release business within the Financial Adviser community. You will also be responsible for managing a team of 5 that ensures our residential property underwriting strategy is understood and implemented correctly across the Aviva Equity Release business, reviewing, and updating the underwriting rules used by the business will also be part of your role, alongside liaising with our external valuers and various stakeholders across Aviva Group. The successful post-holder will need to be based a commutable distance from our York office with a willingness to travel to London or Norwich 1-2 times per month. Skills and experience we’re looking for: Senior/management level experience within the surveying profession, either private practice or client-side with a focus on residential property Strong stakeholder management, leadership, influencing and communication skills - confident with public speaking and presenting to diverse communities including boards, colleagues at all levels, suppliers, and Financial Advisers A deep understanding of residential property, preferably with a background in transactions and valuations in a diverse range of property types, and detailed knowledge of construction methods Understanding of the legal issues in property transactions including tenure, options, overages, wayleaves, easements, covenants etc Qualified Chartered Surveyor – Fellow or Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (FRICS or MRIC) What you’ll get for this role: Our purpose - with you today, for a better tomorrow – is a promise we make to our colleagues too.
