Role The School of Physics, Engineering and Technology is looking for an laboratory technician to provide support to our teaching and research laboratories. The role will provide experimental and computational laboratory support for our teaching/researchIt facilities and BSc & MPhys degree programmes. Work is diverse and includes: Provision of experiments covering all taught areas of the Physics curriculum including but not limited to Basic Electronics, Mechanics, Solid State, Electromagnetism, Thermodynamics, Nano Physics, Quantum Physics, Optics, Atomic & Nuclear, Astrophysics and Computer Control & Interfacing (LabVIEW). Provide technical assistance to students within laboratory sessions Assist project student’s with their final year projects Designing and building new experimental materials Ensure the safe and operational capability of laboratory facilities including PAT testing Provision of health & safety cover throughout the laboratories Skills, Experience & Qualification needed You will have: HNC, HND, undergraduate Physics degree, or equivalent experience Knowledge and ability to implement practical techniques used in Physics laboratories IT skills for a wide range of applications, including Google Apps, Word, Excel and specialist software where appropriate Experience of working on own initiative and as part of a team Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with staff and students Interview date: To be confirmed For informal enquiries: Informal enquiries may be directed to Richard Armitage (Technical Manager) richard.armitageyork.ac.uk or the SPET HR Team pet-hryork.ac.uk.
