Social Performance Analyst
Location: London, Accra, or Freetown (with frequent travel to project sites in West Africa)
Are you an early-career social performance professional with strong analytical skills and a passion for delivering real impact in African communities? This is an opportunity to take on a high-impact role with a pioneering organisation focused on large-scale tropical forest restoration and equitable community benefit sharing.
The Role
As Social Performance Analyst, you will support the design and implementation of community engagement and benefit-sharing strategies, ensuring that local communities receive meaningful and measurable benefits from carbon finance projects. You will be responsible for data collection, stakeholder engagement, and social impact monitoring across multiple West African jurisdictions.
Key Responsibilities:
* Community Benefit Sharing: Assist in the design and implementation of benefit-sharing agreements, ensuring equitable distribution of resources to local communities.
* Stakeholder Engagement & Land Rights: Support land acquisition processes in line with World Bank Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) principles, including Vulnerability Assessments and Livelihood Restoration Plans where necessary.
* Data-Driven Social Impact: Conduct quantitative and qualitative data collection (e.g. household surveys, social baseline studies) to measure the effectiveness of interventions.
* On-the-Ground Implementation: Work closely with in-country ESG teams to ensure best practices are followed at all project sites.
* Industry Compliance & Thought Leadership: Support the maintenance of VERRA CCB validation, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
Ideal Candidate Profile
* Degree (BSc, MSc, or PhD) in a relevant field such as social sciences, economics, environmental studies, development studies, or a related analytical discipline.
* Strong research and data analysis skills, with the ability to design and conduct rigorous social impact assessments.
* Hands-on and field-oriented – comfortable working on the ground in remote areas and engaging directly with local communities.
* Pragmatic rather than ideological – able to focus on practical solutions that deliver measurable impact.
* Experience with land rights, community engagement, or social impact assessment is desirable but not essential.
* Fluent in English (French is desirable).
* Willing to spend at least 10 weeks per year working in West Africa to gain first-hand field experience.
