Salary: SO1 23-25 Approximate hourly rate £18.95 - £19.48 (plus holiday pay 12.07%) Hours: approximately 200-250 for a school year Contract type: Part time Reporting to: Headteacher and Chair of Governors Main purpose We are seeking a Clerk to the Governors to provide an efficient and professional clerking service to the governing board at Marshgate Primary School. The clerk plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth running of the governing board, working closely with the Chair of Governors, Headteacher and other Governors. The Clerk is accountable to the governing board and is involved in working with the governors to prepare agendas and meeting papers, taking accurate and well-constructed minutes, giving administrative support, keeping records and up-to-date information on policies and review dates, and providing procedural and legislative advice to the governing board. The position is home-based, but the successful candidate will be expected to attend governor meetings at school, in addition to relevant training sessions. The opportunity to work on the school site will also be an option if necessary. Duties and responsibilities The role requires a high level of organisational skills and a keen eye for detail. The successful candidate will: • be dependable, proactive, efficient and well organised
• have an interest in education and be willing to develop knowledge of education legislation, guidance, and legal requirements
• be an excellent verbal and written communicator
• possess common sense and the ability to work smoothly and harmoniously with others
• be able to work flexibly
• be an experienced administrator (previous clerking experience desirable)
• have excellent IT skills
• be committed to maintaining confidentiality.Experience is desirable but not essential as training will be provided. Meetings This is a part time role with all meetings held during term time. Full governing board meetings are usually held in the evening with a 6.30pm start while committee meetings are held at various times of day, as early as 8am: • Six meetings each year for the Full Governing Board
• Six meetings each year for the Resourcing Committee
• Six meetings each year for the Curriculum and Progress Committee
• Six meetings each year for the Children, Families and Communities Committee
• Additional meetings for Governors’ panel meetings – the number varies.
