Our Te Poutama Tautoko team, part of our Addictions and Mental Health Service, is focused on empowering individuals to develop the skills, knowledge, and strategies needed for transformative change.
The Role
As an Addictions Practitioner, reporting to the Clinical Manager, you will provide culturally responsive alcohol and drug assessment, treatment, and counselling. You will work closely with individuals and their whānau, helping them develop pathways to wellness. Your responsibilities include:
* Conducting comprehensive alcohol and drug assessments for individuals and whānau.
* Developing personalised care and treatment plans based on needs and agreed interventions.
* Delivering one-on-one and group counselling sessions, workshops, and education programmes.
* Facilitating group therapy, ensuring a safe and collaborative environment.
* Providing feedback, evaluating progress, and updating treatment plans regularly.
* Supporting early intervention, family support, and cultural practices that promote wellness.
* Coordinating with community services and government organisations for additional support and referrals.
* Organising and delivering educational wananga on alcohol and drug abuse within the community.
Key Requirements:
* Relevant education in Psychology, Addictions, Mental Health, Social Work, Nursing, Counselling, or Education.
* Experience in delivering therapeutic interventions for individuals or groups with addictions.
* Proficient in report writing and effective client and caseload management.
* Previous experience working with whanau in our community.
* Full, current driver's license.
* DAPAANZ registration or a commitment to work towards registration is a must
Your Skills:
* Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and ethnicities.
* Knowledge of or willingness to learn about Māori culture and protocols, applying our kaupapa Māori practices in your work.
* Comfortable with regular practice reviews and receptive to feedback and change.
