The Role An exciting opportunity has opened up for a Selective Licensing Officer to join our Selective Licensing team. We are looking for someone that wants to make a difference for our residents that live in private accommodation to regulate housing conditions and management practices in the private rented sector in the Borough. We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, innovative and self-motivated individual with previous experience of working within private sector housing enforcement or licensing. The postholder will be required to carry out property inspections to ensure that legal standards are met, tackling unsatisfactory conditions and undertaking investigations of poor housing conditions and unsatisfactory management of licensed properties within the private rented sector. Key Requirements You must have practical experience of working within housing enforcement or licensing and the ability to assess housing conditions using the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS). You must be able to demonstrate an awareness of the legislation, regulations, and codes of practice relevant to taking enforcement action in relation to improving housing conditions and experience in the production of formal letters, statutory notices, schedules of work, technical reports and plans. Experience preparing and producing witness statements, case files and attending court and/or tribunals to give evidence as and when necessary is also desirable but not essential. We would be happy to receive applications from candidates who have transferable skills or Graduate Environmental Health Officers who have the ambition to work within Private Sector Housing. Skills & Experience You must be able to work both autonomously and as part of a team. You should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to analyse and interpret legislation and enforce it in a balanced way. The successful applicant should also possess the ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
