PRIMARY FUNCTION
Works to promote optimum school readiness by assuring that all Head Start children are linked to medical and dental services and are up-to-date on all examinations, treatment and follow-up. Responsible for health screening, data entry and other functions in support of the goals of Health Services and Nutrition.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Primary Job Responsibilities
* Oversees an assigned caseload of Head Start children to ensure that they receive all necessary health/dental/nutrition services and that all documentation is in place.
* Maintain accurate written/electronic records pertaining to health and nutrition; including screening results, anecdotal observations, documents for transition to Head Start and other required forms.
* Support parents in their role as primary caretakers of their children and encourage their involvement in the program. As needed maintain on-going contact with families around health, nutrition, and family services to integrate services into the family setting.
* Communicate or conduct home visits for purposes of assessment and support, and to share information on health and nutrition issues.
* Supports the Health Services/Nutrition Director in maintaining a tracking system to monitor delivery of all health/nutrition services.
* Monitor emerging trends and health patterns to ensure and educate safe children, staff, and families.
* Supports the Health Services/Nutrition Director with parent and staff training functions.
* Provides other support as assigned to meet the objectives of health and nutrition services.
* Assist Health/Nutrition Director with facilitating community and group activities that support families, strengths, interests, and needs.
* Respects and responds appropriately to the culture, language, values, and family structures of each family.

* Ensures safety is a priority in performing all job responsibilities.
* Maintain confidentiality in accordance with agency policy and legal requirements.
* Performs other reasonably related business duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Skills / Knowledge Required
* High School Diploma or equivalent. Associate's Degree or Bachelor's degree preferred.
* Bilingual preferred.
* Ability to make necessary home visits and to access various community resources.
* Good clerical and organizational skills.
* At least one college course in Human Services.
* Successfully complete the "Health Advocate in the Child Care Setting" course when offered.
* Must be, or be willing to become certified as a First Aid and CPR Instructor.
* Must be, or be willing to become trained to administer health screens (blood pressure, hearing, vision screens, heights and weights).
* Must be willing and able to work flexible hours in order to meet program commitments which may of necessity take place during hours outside of the usual work day.
* Positive work ethic.
* Strong time management skills; Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong computer skills, including internet, email, and Excel, and the ability to learn new systems as required.
* Must meet other qualifications as may be outlined in the Head Start Performance Standards.
* Ability to work as a team member collaborating with staff, parents, and community resources.
