Your New Role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Highways Inspector to join our NMC SW account in Ayr and Dumfries.
Our NMC SW account is working in partnership with Transport Scotland Southwest since August 2020, responsible for inspections, cyclical maintenance, asset management, scheme delivery, winter maintenance, and incident response.
The team is first on the scene to assist road users on the road network, delivering engineering design and operational services for over 600 kilometres of road and 1,650 structures, enabling reliable journey times and high customer care.
By ensuring our roads and highways are well-maintained through all-weather seasons and traffic incidents, we aim to create safe spaces that minimise disruption and support thriving communities.
The Highways Inspector plays an important role in collecting data related to safety and future improvements to safeguard the travelling public, client, and Amey.
The standard hours of work are 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 08:30am - 17:15pm. Work-life balance and flexibility are key for our success, and we empower our people to make choices that are right for them, with hybrid, part-time, and flexible work patterns.
You will be responsible for:
* Carrying out inspections in accordance with the South West unit contract
* Ensuring contract compliance on data quality management issues
* Developing timely and accurate reports and assisting with project administration as required
* Complying with relevant health and safety legislation
* Liaising with colleagues to ensure planning, operations, and works are completed on time
* Communicating with teams to provide evidence in the defence of third-party claims
* Assisting with the establishment and implementation of a programme of inspections and investigations
What makes this role unique is that you’ll focus on the parts of your role you enjoy. You will work closely with clients to build relationships and develop additional skills and leadership capabilities through comprehensive training Amey offers. Our environment is one of collaboration and support where the direction of your career is led by you.
We want to hear from you if you are:
* Self-motivated and able to work alone while prioritising your workload under pressure
* An excellent communicator capable of managing stakeholders at all levels
* Confident in managing trunk road routes
Ideally, you will be qualified in relevant Inspectors courses, including defect identification, monitoring, and recording, and Personal Highway Safety (PHS) certified.
In addition, it would be desirable if you have qualifications defined by clients, including Professional Membership, which will help you hit the ground running, although this is not essential as we will provide the necessary development.
What we can offer you
* Pension – Generous Pension scheme with our contribution
* Choices - Our flexible benefits scheme is tailored by you, including buying additional annual leave, cycle2work scheme, charity giving, and gym membership
* Save with Amey - Our online voucher portal gives access to discounts from leading retailers
