We currently have an opportunity available for a Slow Sand Filter Technician to join our team working in Bournemouth. Joining us on a full-time, permanent basis, you will receive a competitive salary of £26,000 - £30,000 per annum plus excellent benefits.
About the role:
As our Slow Sand Filter Technician, you will carry out a range of maintenance activities at various sites including slow sand filter cleaning and maintenance at Alderney and Knapp Mill Water Treatment Works. The role will include routine checks, maintenance, and operation of mobile plant, and will also involve grounds and building maintenance activities at various sites such as grass cutting, strimming, and basic building maintenance.
What you will be doing:
* Operating specialist mobile plant including skimmers, loading shovels, forklifts, dumpers, and excavators
* Operating and maintaining the sand washing plants
* Raking and shoveling weed from slow sand filters
* Site housekeeping, including road sweeping, drain clearing, grass cutting, and hedge trimming activities
* Performing daily water quality checks on the slow sand filters
* Assisting the Production team with valve operations
* Assisting the Production team with reservoir and tank cleaning
* The completion of reactive and planned grounds and general maintenance work across SWW assets including, but not limited to: Grass Cutting, Hedge Trimming, Pathway repairs, maintenance, Cover repairs and replacements, Roof gutter repairs and maintenance, painting and decoration, Minor/interim/temporary tank repairs, and periodic cleaning of water treatment process tanks – e.g. clarifier cleaning
* Ensuring all work is carried out with due consideration of health and safety and in accordance with Safe Systems of Work
* Ensuring that all activities enhance the reputation and image of the company
What we are looking for:
* Experience of working in a team and an understanding of the importance of teamwork
* Good English – written and spoken
* Takes ownership of work and adopts a continuous improvement philosophy
* Able to work to a high standard, with a focus on the quality of work carried out
* Good communication skills
* Self-motivated and able to carry out defined duties with minimal supervision
* A flexible approach to working hours which includes extended working periods as part of the HIGH-INTENSITY working pattern
* Good level of fitness for the activities outlined
* Ability to adhere to Risk Assessments and SSOW
