We have a n exciting opportunity for a Female support worker to join an existing team of carers looking after a fun-loving lady who has cerebral palsy. Purpose: To work with the client, her family and the wider support team to provide practical and emotional care for the client ensuring safety and physical wellbeing. To facilitate greater independence and to support the client to pursue leisure activities and to enjoy a well-balanced lifestyle, by adopting the appropriate approach as advised by the case manager. About our client: The client is a 40-year-old fun loving lady who has cerebral palsy. She is dependent on assistance for all transfers and personal care. She communicates independently and successfully via an electronic speech aid. The client lives in her own home and requires care 1-1 24 hours per day. Support workers will assist the client to access community activities and complete therapy programmes under the direction of therapists. Female applicants only due to the nature of personal care required. Applicants must have a full driving licence and their own car. What you will be working: Ideally these will be split between 2 people. Week 1: Thurs 12:45 - 20:15 Sat 12:45 - 20:15 Sun 12:45 - 20:15 Sun 20:00 - 08:00 Week 2: Thurs 12:45 - 20:15 Sat 07:45 - 13:00 Sat 12:45 - 20:15 Sun 20:00-08:00 Hours to be negotiated in interview Salary: 14.00 per hour weekdays 15.50 per hour weekends 137.28 Sleep shifts (12 hours) weekdays 142.68 Sleep shifts (12 hours) weekends What you will be doing: To ensure consistency of approach with the client in accordance with advised approaches to care and any emerging therapy aims. To liaise with and support the family as required. To work as part of a team and communicate appropriately with fellow team members. To follow the Service User Plan as documented for the client. To participate in manual handling procedures as specified for the client. To ensure opportunity is given to participate in activities as identified by client / others while achieving a balance between work and rest for the client. To deliver programmes of educational, social and therapeutic development as directed by the relevant professionals and the client s mother. To assist the client to ensure an adequate level of hygiene is maintained. To be aware of any significant changes in the client s health, functioning or behaviour, and inform the client s family, case manager and team leader as appropriate. To encourage the client s independence as far as possible. To be aware of the client s vulnerability and take precautions to protect it. To be aware of the client s physical and cognitive problems and endeavour to cater for these at all times. To respect confidentiality at all times. To be aware of the client s limitations and strengths. To provide the opportunity for the client to follow therapeutic guidelines. To be trained in all relevant skills to undertake role, as identified by the case manager and team leader in liaison with other professionals involved in delivery of support for the client. To adhere to guidelines when taking the client out in her vehicle. To be answerable to the client in the first instance and clinically supervised by the case manager. GENERAL DUTIES To be aware of the problems that the client may have due to her brain injury. Attend relevant training days and sessions when the opportunity arises. Attend staff meetings as requested. To complete relevant documentation as instructed. To use information technology such as email, intranet, electronic records etc. To carry out domestic chores as appropriate. Keep your own record of hours worked on the time sheet. Provide feedback to the team leader, case manager and family on progress/problems. To maintain professional boundaries with the client and their family members, adhering to direction from the case manager as appropriate. To be aware of the house rules, policies and procedures. To organise and manage own time according to delegated workload. Any other duties commensurate with the level of responsibility of this role. What you will have: PERSON SPECIFICATION Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge & Skills QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Previous experience is not essential as full training will be provided. An NVQ (or equivalent) in care and recent training in the following areas would be an advantage: Equality and diversity Health and safety at work Control of substances hazardous to health Fire safety awareness Infection control Food hygiene Manual handling First aid / basic life support including CPR Safeguarding vulnerable adults Safeguarding vulnerable children Conflict management Lone working You will be expected to use information technology such as email, intranet, electronic records etc. Training and support will be provided as necessary and you are expected to maintain your IT skills in order for you to carry out your duties. A patient, warm, caring, reliable and trustworthy person is needed who can work as part of a team. Full training, supervision and support will be provided as required. Qualifications (desirable): NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in Care. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities (essential): Ability to follow instructions / guidance. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities (desirable): Some experience of caring or providing care for clients with physical and communication difficulties. Good understanding of the personal and physical needs of a client with physical and cognitive difficulties. Experience of learning / Cognitive / Behavioural Support Competent IT skills.
