Main duties of the job

Job responsibilities
* Accountable for own actions in accordance with Codes of Professional Conduct. Will contribute to corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and Statutory guidelines and policies at all times.
* Highly developed communication skills, collaborating with all theatre specialities, Anaesthetic and Theatre teams to ensure the appropriate assessment and treatment of emergency surgical patients.
* Coordinate timely and appropriate access for emergency patients to the most suitable theatre resource, contributing to the clinical prioritisation of emergency patients.
* Responsible for identifying and assessing complex clinical and non-clinical issues, implementing solutions and monitoring/auditing outcomes.
* A knowledgeable autonomous practitioner, using agreed procedures for the safe and effective use of the Trust's operating theatre resources. Identifying issues, which prevent the safe and effective management of emergency surgical patients, planning, negotiating and agreeing access.
* Undertake highly specialised technical and/or practical skills to ensure optimum patient management, including complex patient monitoring and defined expanded clinical roles.
* Proactively act as a resource for staff, coaching, mentoring others and providing expert advice on the emergency process. Ensuring that clinical governance is embedded in practice.
* Responsible for developing, implementing, evaluating education, training for staff, patients and carers in support of the emergency patient process.
* Audit practice, develop remedial action plans and participate in research in support of service improvement.
* Utilise and ensure others utilise, information, IT systems to secure accurate and timely information relating to patient, workforce and theatre resources. Responsible for providing agreed management reports.
* Responsible for interdepartmental/organisational activities including HR and complaints.
* Support patients, carers and others during difficult situations arising in the clinical area.
* Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust Policy designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards.
